NFL Rumors: Brian Hoyer Leaving Houston Texans For New York Jets

NFL rumors started swirling around Brian Hoyer. The former Houston Texans quarterback was recently released. It is a position that lacks quality. That would make Hoyer more valuable to teams needing a quarterback. According to Fox Sports, one team that could be interested in him might be the New York Jets. Gang Green are in need of a quarterback. The Jets and Ryan Fitzpatrick are currently at a stalemate. Hoyer has proven that he can be a decent starter.

Things are up in the air with the New York Jets and Ryan Fitzpatrick. The former Harvard star is currently wanting a contract that equals those paid to Brock Osweiler and Sam Bradford. Fitzpatrick had a career year this season. He threw a career-high in passing yards and touchdowns. He almost threw for 4,000 yards. Not too many quarterbacks can do that in a single season. He was one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. The Jets are unwilling to pay him what he wants. The team is willing to offer him $7 million to $8 million a year.

The New York Jets, who are low on the salary cap, might need to start looking for other options at quarterback. Signing Brian Hoyer would be a good win for the team. They could also decide to select a quarterback in this year’s in NFL Draft. Bringing in the former Michigan State Spartans quarterback might be a better option. Hoyer has experience in playing professionally. Last season, Hoyer had a solid season with the Houston Texans.

Brian Hoyer could potentially be the next quarterback for the New York Jets. He will have plenty of weapons at wide receiver. Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall is one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL. Both players had 1,000 yards each last season. That is a tough feat. Decker and Marshall’s success was thanks to the offense run by Chan Gailey. The only weapon Hoyer had last season was DeAndre Hopkins. Imagine what he can do with Marshall and Decker.

The New York Jets made waves during free agency by signing Matt Forte. The former Chicago Bears running back is a great addition to the team. Forte is very versatile and could be a dangerous threat. He is an every down back. Not only is he a running threat, but he can catch the ball out of the backfield as well. Forte will be the workhorse. That means less of a burden on the quarterback.

The New York Jets defense was one of the best last season under Todd Bowles. That would mean Brian Hoyer wouldn’t have to play catch up. The defense was led by Muhammad Wilkerson and Darrelle Revis. New York was 10th best against the run, 13th against the pass and 10th overall in yardages. The front seven for the Jets was dominant. New York feels confident enough in the front seven that they are willing to give up Wilkerson in a trade.

There are still many teams in need of a quality NFL quarterback. The Denver Broncos are in need of a starting quarterback since Peyton Manning retired. Hoyer would have to compete with Mark Sanchez. Another team that could get Hoyer would be the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones could sign Hoyer so he doesn’t have to draft a quarterback so high in this year’s in NFL Draft. That would also mean the Cowboys could wait another year to draft a future quarterback.

The New York Jets are looking for a quarterback since they can’t come to an agreement with Ryan Fitzpatrick. Brian Hoyer would be a cheaper and safer option for the team. Last season, the former Houston Texans quarterback proved he is a quality starter. The Jets could still select a quarterback in the NFL Draft if Paxton Lynch is still available.
