Doris Roberts’ Death: Patricia Heaton Shares Tribute To ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ Co-Star

Doris Roberts’ death has compelled many of her fans, critics, and former co-stars to reflect on and celebrate her life.

The Middle star Patricia Heaton shared her own tribute to the longtime actress on Twitter Monday.

Heaton posted her tribute to Doris Roberts on Twitter as a pinned tweet Monday, which featured a photo of the two actresses together along with a heartwarming statement about her longtime friend and former co-star.

“Truly the end of an era. My wonderful TV mother-in-law and [Everybody Loves Raymond] nemesis Doris Roberts was a consummate professional from whom I learned so much. She was funny and tough and loved life, living it to the fullest. Nothing gave her greater joy than her three wonderful grandchildren, of whom she was so proud.”

Patricia Heaton concluded her beautiful statement and tribute with a message addressed to Doris.

“It truly was a privilege Doris. I love you and miss you.”

The 58-year-old actress followed up her tribute on Tuesday by sharing a photo of the two actresses together. According to the photo’s caption, which was captured by Tom Caltabiano, Heaton and Roberts were enjoying what would sadly become their final hug.

Most fans of the hit CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond remember that Heaton played Debra Barone on the popular series — wife of Ray Barone (played by Ray Romano) and a daughter-in-law to Doris Roberts’ matriarch character Marie.

For nine seasons and more than 200 episodes, Everybody Loves Raymond fans were able to enjoy the love-hate relationship that grew between Patricia Heaton’s and Doris Roberts’ character. That turbulent relationship reflected the typical bond that many real-life wives have with their own mothers-in-law, a factor that undoubtedly helped to make Everybody Loves Raymond such a big hit for CBS in the first place.

Actor Ray Romano also paid tribute to his former TV mother in a statement to ET. The actor stated that Roberts “had an energy and a spirit” that amazed him.

“Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly.”

Quite a few more actors and actresses that worked with Doris Roberts over the years shared heartwarming thoughts about the actress on Twitter.

According to CNN, Doris Roberts’ death was confirmed Monday by the former Everybody Loves Raymond spokeswoman. The 90-year-old actress worked in show business for over 60 years. With her extensive collection of TV and movie credits, her legacy will live on for many years to come.
