‘Smarttress:’ Smart Mattress Designed To Catch Unfaithful Partners In The Act [Video]

A smart mattress has been designed to detect “suspicious movement” in a bed and automatically send the concerned partner a warning message via a mobile app.

As more and more smart tech hits the home-front, the Internet of Things just expanded in an unexpected way. It seems the latest in smart technology is a mattress, designed especially for those who suspect their partner is being unfaithful and having a little something on the side.

A Spanish company by the name of Durmet – which was founded four years ago – has come up with what they feel is the ideal solution for those who feel their affections are being played around with. Dubbed the “Smarttress,” the company states the new mattress comes with a “Lover Detection System,” stating that the product will send you a message if someone is using it in a “questionable way.”

The company, based in Galicia, apparently got the idea of creating the Smarttress after reading a news report about Spain’s high level of infidelity. The report had revealed that Spaniards are the most unfaithful people in Europe, giving Durmet the idea to create a mattress to catch illicit lovers in the act.

On top of that news report, the 2015 hack on the extramarital affairs website, Ashley Madison, also revealed that Spain’s capital, Madrid, has one of the highest numbers of cheating spouses. In fact, Madrid was reportedly second only to London for the number of clients registered on the infidelity website.

Durmet spokesman José Antonio Muiños told the Local, “One day we saw the latest figures on infidelity that said Spaniards were the most unfaithful in Europe and we thought of an idea that would bring peace of mind to men and women, not just during the night but also during the day while they are out at work.”

He carried on by saying that while the Smarttress looks and feels in every way like a normal mattress, there is some cutting-edge technology concealed within. Reportedly, the new “revolutionary product” comes with the Lover Detection System, consisting of 24 ultrasonic sensors which are capable of “capturing suspicious movement” in the bed and letting the mattress-owner know what is going on via mobile app.

Reportedly, the software behind the smart mattress technology is able to generate a 3D map of the mattress, which reveals which areas are receiving greater pressure. According to re/code, The Smarttress app can even indicate the “duration, intensity, and impact per minute.”

The Durmet advert for the Smarttress, included below, concludes by assuring its buyers, “If your partner isn’t faithful, at least your mattress is.”

Some of the comments on the YouTube video are humorous, with one user saying, “Add a remote control taser” and others pointing out there are many more places in the home to be unfaithful.

While initially Durmet were planning on taking over the Spanish mattress market to help catch local philanderers and their female counterparts, their management is confident that the product is so unique it will also sell well overseas.

“We think the mattress will do well internationally because it is the only one in the world that uses this technology and is designed specifically for this objective (catching cheating partners),” said Muiños.

Even better considering the circumstances, new clients are assured of the “utmost confidentiality” when buying the product on the Smarttress website, where it is also possible to download the related app.
