Taylor Swift Gets Bashed On Social Media Over Coachella Appearance

Besides Adele, Taylor Swift is the biggest-selling female artist of the past two years. She has also recently won several Grammy Awards. You would think that with all this success, most people would adore her, right? Well, not the Internet trolls who are in full force bashing Taylor Swift over her weekend appearance at Coachella.

Us Weekly wrote an article about how Swift arrived at Coachella, went to a wedding, and traveled back all in the same day.

“A true jet-setter! Taylor Swift left Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Saturday, April 16, to attend a friend’s wedding 1,200 miles away, but she jetted back in time for the night’s festivities.”

The article adds that Ms. Swift posted several photos hanging out with her friends on Saturday morning.

Unfortunately, some of the commenters after the article aren’t very thrilled.

“Should she get an award? Should we clap for her? I have a cookie I’ll give her,” says Erin.

“Taylor Swift knows she is a fading star. That’s why she is trying to use her appearance at Coachella to score some ‘popular’ points with the cool people. The racist lady needs to go away. She’s done,” claims Proud Gay Millennial.

Then, there is the Daily Mail, which talked about Taylor Swift’s Coachella style.

“The 26-year-old 1989 hitmaker contrasted the tiny bottoms with an elongated heather grey T-shirt, metallic gold Converse-low tops, shiny sequined bands tied around her ankles and a star-studded silver necklace. Taylor also showed off her shaggy bold new peroxide-dyed platinum blonde locks along with natural, complimentary make-up topped off with a swipe of bright red lip.”

Unfortunately for Swift, a majority of commenters after the article aren’t thrilled with her new look.

“Taylor’s hair is awful!” cracks Emily Kate.

“Am i the only one that thinks Taylor with her hair bleached looks like a confused teenaged [sic] boy? haha!” laughs BlockHead.

Entertainment Weekly thought news of Taylor Swift dancing along to Calvin Harris‘ performance would interest their readers.

“Taylor Swift is trash. Nothing more. Nothing less,” claims @GoldWheel

“I used to be a Taylor Swift fan, but her bad attitude towards Kanye West and her racist bashing of Nicki Minaj really turned me off. She needs to go away and NEVER come back,” @BlueCactus responds.

Then, there is Twitter.

There were positive tweets about Swift as well, but the negative ones seemed to overshadow them. Many are wondering what Taylor Swift did to deserve all the vitriol that’s been headed her way since last summer. Neha Gandi from Refinery29 wrote an article about the Swift backlash, claiming that feminists who were criticizing Swift are misguided.

“Tearing down a woman once she’s reached a pinnacle of success (or ever, really), for striving too hard and wanting too much — that flies in the face of feminist values. To celebrate feminism is to allow women to make different choices. It’s about allowing for more — and allowing for the idea that women can face different and multi-layered oppression. But it doesn’t suggest that one experience trumps another.”

Taylor Swift hasn’t really taken on her critics yet, and she probably doesn’t need to since she is still selling a lot of records. If history repeats itself, then Taylor Swift will certainly write a song about the backlash on her next album.
