Stana Katic was allegedly fired from Castle, and fans are really not happy with ABC over the shocking decision.

According to Deadline, Katic, who has portrayed Kate Beckett in the drama since it first began in 2009, will be leaving the drama after Season 8 alongside Tamala Jones, who played Lanie Parish, after not being asked to return for the upcoming ninth season.

Deadline reported that ABC and ABC Studios made the decision for Stana and Tamala to leave the series and alleged that “Katic was never approached to re-up her contract” after signing on for another year at the beginning of Season 7.

Stana’s co-star Nathan Fillion supposedly began talks to continue on with the series “months ago” and is expected to appear in Season 9.

The site also revealed that Katic and Jones were informed of the studio’s decision not to renew their contracts “late last week” and were told that they would not be returning to Castle “for budgetary reasons.”

ABC confirmed the surprising casting shake-up in a statement issued to the site on April 18, which appeared to confirm Deadline’s report that the decision to leave the series was not Katic’s.

“Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series Castle for the past 8 years,” ABC said in a statement, adding that the network was “grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship.”

While Stana did not comment on the circumstances that lead to her Castle departure, Katic did issue a statement to Deadline after news broke that she would no longer be featured on the series.

“Rather than distract from what was an amazing experience, I would just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much beloved show,” Stana Katic said in a statement. “Thank you to the fans.”

Katic also posted a cryptic tweet on April 14, which fans are now speculating could relate to her Castle departure.

“Ughh… End of an Era,” Stana wrote on the 140-character site on April 14, alongside the hashtags #EmptyPerfumeBottle and #Discontinued.

Fans have also been taking to Twitter since the Stana casting news broke on April 18, where a number of viewers put ABC on blast and claimed that they would boycott the show following the shocking Castle casting decision.

“We should boycott #castle. No more bulls*** for me. IM DONE. CASTLE ENDED ON 8X17 @Castle_ABC @ABCNetwork. U dont respect fan at all,” @andreina_hc said, as @Bonstle asked on the social media site, “Can we boycott #Castle and make ABC cancel it? Just cancel it, please. What’s #Castle without Beckett?

Other fans took to the 140-character site to register their disappointment over the news, with a slew of viewers claiming the network ruined the show with their latest decision not to bring back Katic.

“Thank you so much ABC for ruining our favorite tv show,” @castle_scenes wrote, while @underwookatic tweeted out, “I don’t want to live in a world where Kate Beckett is no longer a character on Castle.”

Other fans took aim at the network for disrespecting the actress after appearing on the show for the past eight seasons.

“Stana gives 8 years anything for this Show… and [now] you fired her… #Castle #StanaKatic she deserves much more,” @ChristinaDuerr tweeted, as @manamitru tweeted to the show’s official Twitter account, “.@Castle_ABC the only reason I still watched #Castle was because of [Stana Katic] & you went & fired her. Stana Katic deserves better.”
