‘The Flash’ Season 2: Teddy Sears Discusses Playing Jay And Zoom, Difference Between Zoom And Reverse-Flash, ‘Batman V Superman,’ And SnowJay To Return?

The Flash Season 2, like any show, has been building to the ultimate confrontation between the hero and the “big bad” villain of the season. The Flash season finale is not coming up this week, but the episode “Versus Zoom” pits The Flash up against Zoom once again and with a faster Barry Allen to tackle the speed demon from Earth-2. Zoom is Hunter Zolomon, and he murdered Jay Garrick, but The Flash fans hope to find out more about his identity. The episode “Versus Zoom” hopes to remedy this. Teddy Sears, according to Comicbook, discussed the duality of playing The Flash Jay Garrick and the evil speedster Zoom.

“… I wanted to do on my own distinctions in sort of the best way I could between these two characters and continue to feel it out on set. Luckily for me, Jay is so honorable and heroic, and there’s nothing honorable and heroic about the Zoom incarnation of Hunter Zolomon. That just required me going sort of deep into my own stuff to try to pull out some honest and true characteristics that fit more the mold of the Zoom character that in a way doesn’t resemble at all, what Jay was showing when he was on the show.”

Teddy Sears’ Zoom/Jay Garrick portrayal and position in Season 2, though similar to Tom Cavanagh’s Harrison Wells/Reverse-Flash character and plot twist last season on The Flash, Sears did not actually get any help or advice from Cavanagh.

“Yeah, I tell you, it’s funny, I talk to Tom all the time. That’s not something that we’ve ever discussed though, like how he managed to sort of embody two distinctly different people.”

Zoom and Reverse-Flash may not be as different as fans would like, but the approaches to their ascension from friend to villain has taken on a different form. This seems to likely come full circle in the Flash season finale. Speaking of differences, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow certainly represent a lighter tone versus Arrow and obviously Batman v Superman.

The Flash may have a small cameo, but CW’s The Flash is very different from Batman v Superman, and Teddy Sears points out that the show is much lighter. However, Sears prefers it that way.

“I think that’s one thing that makes The Flash so appealing is there is such a levity to it while still recreating that sort of authentic comic book feel, but it’s managed to avoid going, like you said, into those very dark crevices that the superhero movies du jour, minus Deadpool, are doing to — some would say great effects, but I also say it begins to do a detriment when it is so dark and heavy. I think comic books are supposed to fun and uplifting.”

Speaking of Teddy Sears’ Jay Garrick, since there is a possibility that the Man in the Iron Mask could be another Earth Jay, will SnowJay be an item again? Sears could not reveal this tidbit, but according to Yibada, there is more to SnowJay or rather Snowolomon.

“He essentially is one gigantic liar who has played them all, but he never played her. There are real feelings there. There’s even an under-layer based on where he came from in his life – his origin story – that plays a big part in why he wants her, why he needs her, why he loves her.”

The Flash Season 2 will return with “Versus Zoom,” and sparks are certainly going to fly with Barry about to go head to head with Zoom again but also with a terrifying secret revealed regarding his identity. Also, the Inquisitr reported last week that Teddy Sears’ Zoom will have a new hostage to complicate the match-up even more.
