NFL Rumors: Dallas Cowboys Drafting Jalen Ramsey

NFL rumors have been swirling around Jalen Ramsey. The former Florida State Seminoles star is one of the top defensive backs coming out of the college ranks. Many believe if the Tennessee Titans would have kept the pick, they would have selected Ramsey with the first overall pick in the NFL Draft. The Titans decided to trade away the pick to the Los Angeles Rams. According to ESPN, one team that is very interested in the corner back is the Dallas Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys will be looking to upgrade their secondary to be able to contend for an NFL Championship. Last season, top cover corner back Orlando Scandrick went down with a torn ACL. That left the Cowboys with a very thin secondary. Brandon Carr became the top corner, but he didn’t get a single interception. Byron Jones stepped up as a rookie and started defending the top offensive player on opposing teams. Morris Claiborne was supposed to step up in place of the injured Scandrick, but he didn’t live up to his potential.

The Dallas Cowboys pass rush was below average by NFL standards all last season. Last summer, the Cowboys signed Greg Hardy to a contract in hopes that he could improve a weak defensive line. Hardy did help Dallas’ pass rush, but he couldn’t stay out the headlines. When you can’t generate a good pass rush, you will need your secondary to step up even more so than normal.

Another option for the Dallas Cowboys would be to grab Joey Bosa to help bolster that defensive line. This offseason, the Cowboys made moves to improve the line. The moves they made are still not enough. Passing up on a talent like Bosa would be foolish. A couple years ago, the former Ohio State star showed great promise. The ceiling for Bosa in the NFL is unthinkable. DeMarcus Lawrence is a good up-and-coming player, but he is coming off back surgery. The injury was worse than initially thought. Randy Gregory will be suspended for the first four games. He might miss more if he doesn’t behave.

The Dallas Cowboys picking a defensive player over a quarterback shows how serious they are about winning now. Last season, when Tony Romo went down for the year, many fans started panicking. Jerry Jones played it cool and relied on Matt Cassel and Kellen Moore.

The Dallas Cowboys will do whatever they can to help Tony Romo win an NFL Championship. For that to happen, Jerry Jones will need to improve the defense. Drafting Jalen Ramsey will help improve the secondary dramatically. The window for Dallas to win a title with Romo is coming to a close. Romo has suffered many injuries in the past couple of years and is already 35 years of age. Jones believes Romo can play for many more years, but with the injuries he sustained, that might be out of the question.

The Dallas Cowboys’ defense doesn’t have to be the best. It just has to be good enough to help the team win. The offense can carry the team with Romo at quarterback. They also have Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Darren McFadden, and Alfred Morris. They also have one of the best offensive lines in the entire NFL. The offensive firepower the Cowboys posses could potentially push them to win an NFL Championship.

The Dallas Cowboys will need to improve their defense to have a chance to compete for an NFL Championship. Drafting a talent like Jalen Ramsey is too hard to pass up. Dallas was in need of some help in the secondary last season. Bringing in the former Florida State Seminoles star will improve the Cowboys secondary.
