Jessa Duggar’s Husband, Ben Seewald, Attends Rap Concert Without Her: Does Ben Regret Getting Married Young?

All right, stop. Pass the collection plate and listen. Benilla Ice is back with a brand new mission.

And what exactly is this ambitious new mission of Ben Seewald, husband of Jessa Duggar? According to the most recent episode of Jill & Jessa: Counting On, Ben is interested in becoming a “missionary to the inner city.” Ben’s plan to score a preaching gig in a rough neighborhood includes immersing himself in the world of Christian hip-hop, which is what got him interested in inner city ministry. However, it doesn’t look like Jessa Duggar shares her husband’s passion for rap music.

According to the Duggar Family News: Life Is Not All Pickles and Hairspray Facebook page, Ben Seewald attended a Christian rap concert on Thursday night with a friend of the Duggars named Krista. She shared a few photos and videos that were taken during the event, and Jessa Duggar is nowhere to be seen. In one of Krista’s videos, Ben is shown bobbing his head up and down in the middle of a large crowd of young men and women.

The Christian rapper in the video above goes by the stage name Lecrae, and his performance took place at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. There’s no word on why Jessa Duggar didn’t attend the event, but, as Perez Hilton points out, she didn’t seem all that into Ben’s favorite style of music in this Tuesday’s episode of Jill & Jessa: Counting On. Jessa barely uttered a peep while she and Ben were in the recording studio with Flame, one of Ben’s favorite Christian rappers, and she even ignored music producer Spec when he jokingly asked her if she could get her husband in the recording booth. Jessa also skipped Flame’s tour of the rough neighborhood that he grew up in.

“I wouldn’t really know anything about Christian hip-hop if wasn’t for Ben liking this type of music,” Jessa Duggar told the TLC cameras.

What Jill & Jessa: Counting On didn’t tell viewers was that Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar banned their kids from listening to any type of music with a beat while they were growing up. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Jessa’s parents take issue with tunes that make listeners feel like dancing because they believe that girls who dance “defraud” guys by “building up sensual desires” that they “cannot rightfully fulfill.”

“It’s not good on your heart and your mind,” Jim Bob said of music with a beat.

It does look like more than a few members of the audience at the Lecrae concert where movin’ and groovin’ to the beat of the music, and Ben Seewald even did a little head-bobbing.

Jessa Duggar puts her husband on diaper duty whenever he’s home, so Ben Seewald was probably thrilled to leave his wife alone with baby Spurgeon while trying to avoid getting “defrauded” at the Lecrae concert. However, it’s somewhat unusual to see the Duggars at big events without their significant others, and commenters on the Pickles & Hairspray page are debating over whether Jessa should be worried about Ben’s decision to attend the concert without her. Some are speculating that 20-year-old Ben regrets getting married at age 19 and having a baby shortly thereafter. Some allege he’s trying to live like a young single guy whenever he gets the chance.

“I think this is a sign of regret on his part and also future trouble,” Andrea Hagen commented.

“Jessa was probably at home taking care of Spurgenator, although I don’t know why she couldn’t have handed him to Jana and Joy. I sort of sense a scandal brewing,” Lorraine Swanson wrote.

However, others argued that Ben’s love of Christian hip-hop could end up benefiting Jessa Duggar in the long run, even if she’d rather listen to bluegrass, classical, and what she refers to as “Christian country-type stuff.”

“Good for him for attending a concert he enjoys,” Jennifer Beaudry wrote. “It’s not like he’s attending a secular concert, and even if he was, good for him. Maybe they’ll be the ones to break free from the family nonsense.”

The day after the Lecrae concert, Jessa Duggar tried to put any rumors of marital problems to rest by sharing an Instagram video of Ben enjoying a taco date with her. As you can see, Ben had a very healthy appetite after spending the night swaying around in a smoke-filled concert venue.

Luckily for Jessa Duggar, her husband realized that he doesn’t have it what it takes to be a Christian hip-hop artist after Spec had to auto-tune his voice until it was unrecognizable to produce a short track featuring baby Spurgeon. And during a tour of the crime-ridden St. Louis neighborhood where Flame grew up, the rapper hinted that it would be a mistake for Ben to try to reinvent himself as an edgy, hip-hopping preacher. When Ben asked what he could do to get involved in “inner city ministry,” Flame told him to reach out to local churches and “be genuine,” because “people can spot if you’re putting on a front.”

How do you think Jessa Duggar feels about her husband’s love of Christian hip-hop and his desire to be an inner city preacher?
