‘Dancing With The Stars’: Peta And Maks On Their Wedding Plans

Dancing With the Stars pros Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy fell in love on the ABC dance competition and became engaged in December. Peta and Maks recently spoke with Extra and confirmed that they have not yet set a date for their nuptials but said that it may happen next year. Peta told Extra, “This year has been so busy… probably next June-ish.”

When Peta was asked if she would take Maks’ last name when the Dancing With the Stars couple weds, she said she probably would. Maks joked about the idea of Peta using both names, so her name would be Peta Murgatroyd-Chmerkovskiy. Peta must have given this some thought at some point because she commented, “I think it’s like twenty-three letters.” (She’s close. It’s 27 characters, including the hyphen.)

Of course, when two dance pros get married, especially when they are stars of Dancing With the Stars, one of the first things people want to know about is the couple’s first dance. So, what do Peta and Maks have in mind? Peta joked about it then admitted that they haven’t discussed it in detail.

“I think I’m going to hold you like this and sway to side to side. We’ll probably figure it out the night before.”

Maks indicated he’d be up for a flash mob including other Dancing With the Stars pros.

Peta is so right when she said it’s been a busy year. They both have a lot going on at the moment. She is competing on this season of Dancing With the Stars with deaf model Nyle DiMarco. Viewers have been blown away by their performances. Bruno raved on one episode of Dancing With the Stars that the winner of America’s Next Top Model could be “America’s Next Top Dancer.” DiMarco credits Peta with their success. The team has had to learn ways to communicate constantly so that he knows when and how to move in spite of not being able to even feel vibrations of the music.

Maks will be returning as a judge on this week’s episode of Dancing With the Stars. It’s “Switch Up” week, so Peta will dance with Doug Flutie instead of Nyle. Maks swears he will not show her any favoritism, and Peta indicated that she hopes he will actually be tougher on her.

After his judging gig on Dancing With the Stars, Maks will be doing a national tour with his brother Val, who is currently a Dancing With the Stars pro. The tour is titled “Maks and Val Our Way.” Maks described it like this.

“Its autobiographical… we’re telling the story of us and how we became from zero to dancing with the stars.”

It should be a fascinating story. Maks and brother Val were born in the Ukraine. He began dancing at age four but broke his leg at 13 and had to have a titanium rod put in his leg. Doctors didn’t think Maks had much of a future as a dancer, but he proved them wrong. His family came to the U.S. in 1994 when he was 14.

Peta and Maks seem more patient about the timing of their wedding than many Dancing With the Stars fans are. We’re all eager to learn all the details of the stunning couple’s ceremony. Back in January, Maks told In Touch the following.

“I want it to be a million dollar wedding! She wants a princess thing with the horse and carriage and I want to give that to her.”

Yes, please! And take lots and lots of pictures and post them so all the Dancing With the Stars fans can see!
