‘Zombieland 2’: Sequel Finally Happening, Fans Freak Out

Zombieland 2 is officially happening. Fans have been hoping for a sequel to the 2009 horror comedy film starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin for years, and now they’re finally getting one.

According to Digital Spy, Zombieland 2 was announced during CinemaCon, when a logo for the upcoming sequel was revealed, leaving fans going wild about the upcoming movie.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the first Zombieland movie and also worked on the huge 2016 hit film Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds, are attached to the sequel.

Dave Callaham is also joining the writing team, as he has experience on films such as Godzilla and the Expendables films. Ruben Fleischer will direct the film, and he and the cast have a history together; he’s also directed Jesse Eisenberg in 30 Minutes or Less and Emma Stone in Gangster Squad.

The newly released Zombieland 2 logo didn’t reveal much. It was basically just the title with a black background. However, fans are still completely excited for the sequel, as they’ve been wanting this for a long time.

In the first Zombieland film, it is revealed that some sort of food contamination caused people to get sick and become zombies. The film is told from Jesse Eisenberg’s character’s point of view as he struggles to survive in the new world using a set of rules that he’s developed along the way, such as “limber up” before going into a possibly dangerous situation and “double tap” the zombies to make sure they’re really dead.

The movie was more of a comedy than a horror film, but fans loved the dynamic of the characters together on screen, as Eisenberg’s character, who is called Columbus, runs into a rough and rowdy zombie killer played by Woody Harrelson. The two men are a very unlikely duo, but they seem to balance each other when it comes to surviving the zombie apocalypse.

In Zombieland, Harrelson’s character, simply referred to as Tallahassee, is on a quest to find a Twinkie, his favorite of all snack foods. While looking for a box of the yellow sponge cake in a supermarket, the men run into two young women, sisters who are called Wichita and Little Rock, played by Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin.

Columbus and Wichita develop a bit of a romantic relationship, but the two girls are on their own quest to get to Pacific Playland, an amusement park that they have heard is zombie-free.

Along the way the gang heads to Beverly Hills and shacks up in the house of acting legend Bill Murray, who is Tallahassee’s favorite actor. Unfortunately, in a hilarious moment, Columbus mistakes Murray for a zombie and shoots him. Bill Murray then dies after telling the group his only regret is doing the movie Garfield.

Later, the girls take off for Pacific Playland and find themselves in trouble when the place becomes overrun by zombies. Thankfully, Columbus and Tallahassee are there to help them. The film ends with the four characters driving off together.

So, what could be in store for Zombieland 2? It’s hard to say, as the casting has yet to be announced, but if all the main players return for the sequel, it’s likely to be much like the original, only Columbus and Wichita could be hot and heavy by now. The gang could also run into more survivors, which could lead to some interesting casting. Whatever happens, fans are so excited by the big sequel announcement and know that the film is going to be hilarious.
