Los Angeles Rams: 5 Potential 2016 NFL Draft First-Round Targets

The Los Angeles Rams acquired the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft from the Tennessee Titans in a blockbuster deal. It cost them a good amount, but they are looking to bring in players that can help them compete for a playoff spot now.

Jeff Fisher has to be excited about the upcoming 2016 NFL season, but that excitement is likely very small compared to the excitement about how many options the Rams have in the draft.

Many believe that the Rams are going to end up taking their future franchise quarterback. That is the wide belief of the majority of analysts and fans, but no one can truly know what the Rams have in mind. There are other players at other positions that could make just as big of an impact for Los Angeles as one of the top two quarterbacks available.

Los Angeles has been slowly building to get back to being a competitive football team. It has been quite some time since they have been taken as a serious contender, but if they play their cards right they could be there soon.

All of that being said, what five prospects are potential targets for the Rams in the first round of the draft?

Jared Goff, Quarterback, California Golden Bears

California quarterback Jared Goff is widely viewed as the top quarterback in the draft class. If the Rams do end up deciding to go with a quarterback, Goff would likely end up being their choice. He would make for a very solid option as a face of the franchise moving forward and could be exactly what the Rams need to get back into the playoff picture.

Carson Wentz, Quarterback, North Dakota State Bison

The only other quarterback option that the Rams have with the No. 1 pick is North Dakota’s Carson Wentz. He has bee flying up draft boards this offseason and is a very intriguing quarterback. Wentz has the body to be a star at the next level, but no one has seen him go up against incredibly high level competition, as he played in a weak conference in college.

Jalen Ramsey, Defensive Back, Florida State Seminoles

Jalen Ramsey would make a lot of sense for the Rams as well, as they could use a defensive back. He is one of the top playmakers in the draft and there are quite a few teams looking to move up to get him. Los Angeles would be getting a massive upgrade to their defense and could get some consideration.

Laremy Tunsil, Offensive Tackle, Ole Miss Rebels

Adding more depth and talent to the offensive line could be another option for the Rams. They don’t necessarily “need” an offensive tackle, but Laremy Tunsil is an impressive player. Tunsil would make sense as a pick that the Rams could either trade or upgrade their offensive line to protect whoever ends up being their starting quarterback.

Laquon Treadwell, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss Rebels

Another position with major need for the Rams is at wide receiver. Laquon Treadwell isn’t the type of player that the Rams would draft with the No. 1 overall pick, but they could choose to trade back down and take him. Treadwell could be an intriguing fit for Los Angeles and might be exactly the top target that they have been searching for over the past few years.

It will be interesting to see what the Rams end up doing with the No. 1 overall pick. They have so many options, and while a quarterback seems likely, there is no guarantee. No matter what they decide to do, Los Angeles should have yet another bright young star to help grow them back into playoff contenders.

Do you think the Los Angeles Rams will take one of these five players with their first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft? Which one do you think would be the best fit for them?
