Donald Trump, Megyn Kelly Meet Privately, Have The Two Former Rivals Made Nice?

Donald Trump and Megyn Kelly met privately at Trump Tower on Wednesday, possibly putting their war of words behind them and raising the possibility of a Trump interview on Kelly’s Fox News show The Kelly File, Huffington Post is reporting.

On Wednesday morning, Kelly was spotted by photographers entering Trump Tower — something she readily admitted to.

“We had the chance to clear the air. And in case you were wondering, yes, the doorman appeared a bit stunned when I walked in.”

Trump and Kelly met for “about an hour,” according to a statement by Fox News. The specifics of what they spoke about are being kept mostly under wraps, but it appears that the two have put aside their differences.

The Donald Trump-Megyn Kelly feud dates back to the first Republican debate in August, 2015, when Kelly, moderating the debate, asked Trump questions about his history of misogyny and derogatory statements about women, according to The Guardian.

“Your Twitter account has several disparaging comments about women’s looks. You once told a contestant on the Celebrity Apprentice it would be a pretty picture to see her on her knees. Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president? And how do you answer the charge from Hillary Clinton – that you are part of the war on women?”

Trump considered the question unfair, and he responded with a war of words against Kelly, questioning her integrity as a journalist. Speaking to CNN‘s Don Lemon, Trump even suggested that Kelly had “blood coming out of her wherever,” a vulgar reference to menstruation.

Trump continued to carry on his feud with Megyn, mostly via social media — he mentioned her from time to time on Twitter, usually to call her such things as a “lightweight reporter” and suggesting that people boycott her show.

Trump even refused to participate in further debates moderated by Kelly, saying he was “not a big fan” of hers, although he did later appear at another Kelly-moderated debate, according to MSN.

Meanwhile, Kelly’s employer, Fox News, took her side, saying Trump had a “sick obsession” with Kelly and calling his conduct unbecoming of a presidential candidate.

Kelly, for her part, refused to back down from her questions about Trump’s misogyny, saying she would not apologize for “good journalism.”

Kelly has, apparently, been trying — and failing — to make nice with Trump ever since their kerfuffle. Speaking last week to Variety, Kelly said she’s tried to reach out to Trump, but he keeps attacking her.

“To be honest, every time I prepare an invitation to sit down with him, he attacks me on Twitter or elsewhere. I had always been hoping I could reach out to him at a time when he wasn’t angry. I don’t think it would be a good interview if he was angry at me—but then he never stops with the attacks. I was just about to ask him to sit down with me two weeks ago, but then he started up again out of the blue.”

On her show Wednesday night, Kelly suggested that her meeting with Trump may lead to an exclusive Kelly File interview.

“Mr. Trump and I discussed the possibility of an interview, and I hope we will have news to announce on that soon. Stay tuned.”

As of this writing, it is not clear when, or if, Donald Trump will appear on Megyn Kelly’s show.
