A dog's loyalty knows no bounds, but one spooked couple swear the ghost of their recently-deceased pet proved its fierce and unconditional devotion from beyond the grave by rising from the dead and chasing off the demonic spirits which had been haunting their home for years.
Barry and Christine Kennedy say they have been plagued for time out of mind by the spirit of a sinister old man who delighted in creating merry havoc at their home in Skelmersdale, Lanc, in the U.K.
The Mirror reports that Christine has been hit with objects and scratched on multiple occasions by the phantom pensioner, whose toxic presence has made the 39-year-old's two daughters, Bethany, 13, and Chloe, 10, fearful of sleeping.
Yet help finally came to the petrified family from the most unlikeliest of sources -- the ghost of their 18-year-old dog Mutley, who was put down in January, 2014.
Although it would appear to be an unlikely tale, the Kennedys have provided chilling footage, which has to be said, does appear to feature a shadowy shape resembling a dog, charging towards the camera.
It's easy to be cynical about such things, but the footage, which has received almost 134,000 shares and 46,000 likes on social media, has been confirmed as genuine by Paranormal investigator Brenda Castellano, who has also worked with police in the U.S.
"After I viewed that video, I contacted [Barry] after I sent it to a paranormal friend who analyses pics and videos of paranormal nature.Barry explained that he caught the footage of his dead dog purely by chance.
"After the results deemed that the video was legitimate and untouched by any fraud measures I did contact Barry to let him know the findings."
"I was taking pictures of the kids in the kitchen when I noticed strange orbs on the pictures. At the same time we always got the smell of wet dog.Critics on social media instantly slammed the footage and claimed the supposed spirit was nothing but smoke and mirrors.
"One day I just stood in the kitchen calling his name, taking pictures, and it happened again where his basket used to be. That's all I was expecting to catch. I just expected to see orbs.
"I thought it was silly at first but once I saw it with my own eyes I realized it simply wasn't dust or anything like that. You can see his foot step onto the floor as he moves past the camera and the shape of his head."
Barry was quick to respond and snapped, "Smoke never rises."
"People have said it could be smoke but smoke rises, it doesn't move around so quickly like that. If I thought it was smoke I would never have shared it online as we got a lot of backlash from it."Since Mutley made his surprise appearance, the Kennedy's home is now seemingly free of the demonic forces which made it such a hellish place to live.
"It didn't (the ghost of Mutley) scare us. The feeling was quite nice in the end that he came back to see us. Compared to some of the other things that we saw and heard in the house this was much more positive.[Photo by Jeff J Mitchell/Getty Images]
"We often heard whispering coming from the middle bedroom even though no one is in there and sometimes when I was lay in bed I would hear footsteps come up the stairs and stop outside the door, with the shadow visible under the door – but no one was ever there.
"The scariest time was when the footsteps kept coming up the stairs and felt like they came into the room. Then I had the sensation that someone was in the room with me – that really scared me.
"I have only ever heard noises though. Christine and Bethany have actually seen an old man in the house, which Christine thinks could be the ghost of a miner as the house was built on disused mine-shafts.
"Christine used to get scratches on her legs until Mutley came back. It all stopped after that. That's why we think he did it -- to protect Christine -- because it hasn't happened since.
