Ian Somerhalder Takes Back Comment ‘Vampire Diaries’ Is Ending, Says Season 8 Is His Last

Ian Somerhalder recently made a comment that made everyone believe that The Vampire Diaries was coming to an end after Season 8, but the network wasn’t confirming that a decision had been made yet. Now Ian Somerhalder is speaking out and making it sound like he just worded things wrong and the show isn’t really coming to an end. Hollywood Life is sharing what Ian Somerhalder had to say about the show.

EW revealed what Ian Somerhalder shared originally that had everyone thinking the show was over. While at Walker Stalker Con in Nashville, Ian stated that they decided to do one last season to give the story justice. He made it sound like it was all about bringing everything together and giving fans a good story instead of just ending. At the time, The CW wouldn’t share if the show was ending or not.

The thing is that Ian Somerhalder is saying that he isn’t going to return after Season 8. They already lost Nina Dobrev, and UsWeekly shared that Kat Graham has already revealed she is leaving after this season as well. It is hard to imagine that the show can go on without these three characters that are such a big part of the show. Kat shared that Season 8 would be her last season, but that she is going to really miss the crew.

Today Ian Somerhalder went to his Twitter and explained the comments that he made. It is hard to tell if the show really isn’t ending or if Ian let something out before it was supposed to be revealed. Now he is backtracking and making sure that everyone knows he didn’t mean exactly what he said. Here is what Ian Somerhalder shared today.

“Hey all, so… Last weekend I talked to an audience at a Q&A about the end of #TVD and how excited I was to make what I believe – my last year – be as great as possible. Somehow in my infinite wisdom and end-of-season foggy brain, I managed to make it sound like the show was coming to an end. Cut-to the press running stories that the show would be done after Season 8. Thing is, the people who actually make that decision (the CW and WB) haven’t made it yet! So let’s take things one step at a time: Season 7 wrap, vacation, lots of sleep, let the writers get started on Season 8, and then we’ll all see where we go from there. Until then, much love ? Love, Ian”

Fans are still confused on if The Vampire Diaries will be coming to an end or not. As of right now, there is no confirmation either way and what Ian Somerhalder had to say today really doesn’t prove that it will be back. If it does come back again, it will be without Ian Somerhalder, Kat Graham, and Nina Dobrev, so they could lose a lot of their fan base. On this show, everyone knows that if someone dies they can come back again, but when an actor or actress leaves the show, that is pretty final. They might be able to talk them back for a series finale, but none of them will be on the show all the time again.

Are you shocked to hear that Ian Somerhalder is going to be leaving TVD after Season 8, even if it doesn’t come to an end? Do you think that this show has been around long enough and it is time to let it go? Sound off in the comments section below on your thoughts, and don’t miss new episodes of The Vampire Diaries on Friday nights on The CW.
