Paul Ryan Is ‘Next President Of United States,’ Says Romney [Video]

Barack Obama will be going up against a Romney / Ryan ticket during the 2012 election, but it’s a little unclear who will be running for president and who will be running for vice president. Mitt Romney introduced Paul Ryan this morning as “the next President of the United States.”

Romney said:

“Paul Ryan works in Washington but his roots remain in Janesville, Wisconsin. Today’s a good day for America, and there are better days ahead. I would like you to join me in welcome the next president of the United States, Paul Ryan!

Romney noticed the gaffe almost immediately and after the crowd quieted down and Paul Ryan walked up on stage he stepped back up to the mic and said:

“Every now and then I’m known to make a mistake…. I did not make a mistake with this guy. But I can tell you this, he’s going to be the next vice president of the United States.”

Pundits, politicians, and good ol’ internet folk got a good laugh at Romney’s gaffe today but ABC notes that Mitt isn’t the only person to make a the mistake. In 2008, when President Obama announced Joe Biden as his running mate, he made a similar error.

At the time, Obama said:

“So let me introduce to you the next president – the next vice president of the US of America, Joe Biden.”

Here’s a video of Mitt Romney’s flub today.
