WWE News: Wyatt Family Feud Continuing On ‘RAW,’ Big Match At ‘Payback’

The road to WrestleMania was a curiously bumpy one for Bray Wyatt and the Wyatt Family. Their moment at the grandest stage resulted in a stand-off with The Rock, some physicality, and the brief return of John Cena.

With Mania in the rear-view mirror, the road to Payback seems to be paved a bit smoother for the Eater of Worlds and his followers. The Monday Night RAW after WrestleMania saw the Wyatts ignite a new feud that looks to continue this week, with WWE.com offering this teaser, as reported by Wrestling Inc.

“After laying out their so-called ‘weakest link,’ King Barrett, The League of Nations suffered an even worse beat-down courtesy of The Wyatt Family, who made short work of Sheamus, Rusev and Alberto Del Rio in a startling show of force on Raw. Following that attack, are Bray Wyatt and his flock poised to engulf the international trio? Wyatt is The Eater of Worlds, after all…

“Regardless, it’s doubtful that even the presence of Raw guest star Dr. Phil will be able to help either of these factions find peace with one another this Monday night. WWE Universe, brace yourselves.”

The Inquisitr reported back in February that King Barrett would be leaving the company when his contract expires this June. WWE put those wheels in motion when his League of Nations brethren unceremoniously kicked him out of their faction. Perhaps even sooner, as Barrett was a ringside spectator for the League’s match with The New Day at WrestleMania when all along it had been advertised as a four-on-three handicap match. Nevertheless, Sheamus, Rusev, and Alberto Del Rio have bigger fish to fry it seems in the form of the Wyatt Family.

Coincidentally, the numbers are even now between the two factions. Barrett has been removed from the equation, and the Wyatt Family recently lost Luke Harper to a significant injury. This could all be building towards a six-man tag match at Payback on May 1. With Barrett’s impending departure, he could be used as jobbing fodder to his former partners as the Wyatts linger until the right moment for an attack.

Last week offered no concrete indication that either the League of Nations or the Wyatt Family would be turning babyfaces, but in all likelihood, Bray and company would serve the roles, marking the first time the Wyatts would have turned. It’s also possible the company wants to pull off another six-man match featuring two heel factions. Back in 2014, the original iteration of the Wyatt Family, featuring Bray, Erick Rowan, and Luke Harper, took on The Shield, consisting of Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Seth Rollins. Both teams were heels at the time, although The Shield would turn shortly thereafter. They’d go on to feud with the Authority, which included a forgettable match with the New Age Outlaws and Kane at WrestleMania 30, before going toe-to-toe with Evolution. Bray Wyatt experienced his first big WrestleMania program when he feuded with John Cena.

There’s still three more weeks of build-time leading up to May’s Payback, but the card is already shaping up to be pretty compelling. We know for sure that Roman Reigns will defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against AJ Styles. Other rumored matches include Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn squaring off for the first time on the big stage, Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho tangling in a match that was originally slotted for WrestleMania, Natalya challenging Charlotte for the WWE Women’s Championship, and more. This potential Wyatt Family vs. League of Nations match would certainly add a different element to a card that will still need to include Cesaro, Enzo and Cass, and The New Day.
