Islam And Homosexuality: Half Of British Muslim Population Thinks Homosexuality Should Be Illegal

A study done on T 1,801 adult Muslims on issues including relationships, polygamy and laws showed that more than half of British Muslim population condemns homosexuality.

52 percent of poll takers disagreed that homosexuality should be legal in Britain.

The poll also discovered that 31 percent believe it is acceptable for Muslim men to have more than one wife, and 23 percent would support parts of Britain being governed by Sharia law rather than British law, Metro reported.

In the survey, where many controversial questions regarding sexuality were asked, 39 percent of the poll takers agreed wives should always obey their husbands.

The polls showed that British Muslims hated adultery. 79 percent of people condemned those who take part in stoning those who practice adultery.

The full findings from the ICM poll will be featured in a Channel 4 documentary, What British Muslims Really Think, which airs locally on Wednesday.

The reports of the poll was presented by former head of the Equality and Human Rights Commission Trevor Philips. The program will also investigate the differences between British Muslims and other Muslims all over the world.

“The integration of Muslims will probably be the hardest task the country has ever faced,” Philips said “Britain desperately wants us to think of its Muslims as versions of the Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain, or the cheeky-chappy athlete Mo Farah. But thanks to the most detailed and comprehensive survey of British Muslim opinion yet conducted, we know that just isn’t how it is,” he added.

“I thought Europe’s Muslims would gradually blend into the landscape. I should have known better,” he told Sunday magazine.

More than 80 percent of Muslims surveyed said they felt British and were happy living here. But they also confessed they would rather not enter other communities when it came to relationships.

The figures suggested that more than half of population blends with non-Muslims each day, but 20 percent among them don’t dare to enter non Muslim households.

“It will require the abandonment of the milk-and-water multiculturalism still so beloved of many, and the adoption of a far more muscular approach to integration,” Philips added.

The situation of sex is increasingly worsening in Islamic nations. Recently, CNS news reported that “every Muslim wants death penalty for homosexuals.” The statement was made by Fahad Qureshi, who founded Islam Net and is considered an Islamic leader in Norway.

He told a large group of Sunni Muslims that, contrary to media claims that it is only “radicals” and “extremists” who support barbaric punishments for those who violate sharia, regular Muslims support such things, including the “death penalty for homosexuals” and “stoning for adultery.”

“We always try to tell them,” he said, “I always try to tell them that it is not that speaker that we are inviting who has these ‘extreme radical views,’ as you say. These are general views that every Muslim actually has.”

“Every Muslim believes in these things,” said Qureshi at the Nov. 7, 2013 conference. “Just because they are not telling you about it, or just because they are not out there in the media, doesn’t mean that they don’t believe in them.

“How many of you agree that men and women should sit separate?” said Qureshi. “Please raise your hands. Everyone agrees, everyone agrees, brothers as well as sisters. So it’s not just these ‘radical’ sheiks, then?”, Qureshi commanded.

He then said, “How many of you agree that the punishments described in the Koran and the Sunna – whether it is death, whether it is stoning for adultery, whatever it is — if it is from Allah and His Messenger, that is the best punishment ever possible for humankind, and that is what we should apply in the world. Who agrees with that?”

The crowd then raised their hands in unison.
