Doug Flutie Leaving ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Week 4? Three NFL Stars In Jeopardy On ‘DWTS’ Season 22

Former NFL star Doug Flutie has hovered around the bottom of the Dancing with the Stars leaderboard since Season 22 of ABC’s ballroom dance competition got underway three weeks ago.

Last week, Doug put on an emotional performance during “Most Memorable Year” week, honoring his parents Dick and Joan Flutie, who died one hour apart on November 18, 2015. His waltz with Karina Smirnoff was a tissue-worthy performance and viewers could tell he put his heart into the dance, but the judges’ didn’t agree.

Doug was given a score of 20 for his waltz to the Rainbow Connection on Week 3. Both Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli gave him a score of 7 and Len Goodman took him down a notch with a 6.

The 20 was exactly the same score he received on Week 2, up from a 15 on the DWTS season premiere. Flutie has been floundering in the bottom for three weeks now and there is no doubt that he will be in jeopardy once again when the Week 4 Disney Night performances are done.

Joining him in the bottom three are two other NFL stars: Von Miller and Antonio Brown, who received exactly the same scores from the judges as Doug did. If host Tom Bergeron announces that they are all in jeopardy on Monday night, the end result will be completely dependent on votes from fans.

According to ABC, fans’ votes are combined with the judges’ scores at the end of each week’s voting period (find the DWTS voting phone numbers here). The couple with the lowest combination of votes and scores will be eliminated the following week. That makes votes from viewers extremely important, especially for celebrities who have the lowest scores on the leaderboard.

Flutie, Von, and Antonio are all extremely popular with fans so they all have a good shot at being saved with votes from their supporters. Let’s take a look at the number of social media followers each of the NFL players have — this may be a key indication as to who will go home on Monday night.

Doug Flutie has the least amount of followers on social media, but he does have a great amount of support from his fans in Boston; he attended Boston College, played for the New England Patriots for several seasons, and currently lives in Massachusetts.

However, his low scores for the first three weeks of competition on Dancing with the Stars may be an indication that his time on the show is over. Last week’s score of 20 will need a big boost from fans if he is to continue on to Week 5.

According to Buddy TV, Doug and Karina will be doing a Jazz routine to “A Spoon Full of Sugar” from Mary Poppins on Monday night’s Disney-themed show. Even if they pull off a perfect score for their performance, it won’t help them stay if they had the lowest combined votes and scores last week.

If you need a refresher on last week’s scores, here’s how everyone ranked last week.

Nyle and Peta topped the leaderboard with a 25, followed by Wanya and Lindsay who received a 24 for their performance in Week 3.

Both Paige and Mark, and Jodie and Keo scored a 23, putting them in a tie for third place. Kim Fields and her partner Sasha Farber danced their way to a 22 last week, securing a fourth place spot heading into Week 4.

Marla Maples and her partner Tony Dovolani tied for fifth place (21) with Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy. As mentioned above, Doug, Von, and Antonio all scored a 20 putting them in a three-way tie for last place.

Will Doug Flutie dance his final dance on Monday night’s “Disney Night” show, or will he end up safe for another week? Find out on Monday night. Dancing with the Stars Week 4 begins at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
