Stephen Amell, ‘Arrow’ And ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2’ Star, Shares Airplane Etiquette Tips

Stephen Amell has already proven that he is a solid actor thanks to the hit television series, Arrow.

Many of his biggest fans and critics are looking forward to seeing how Stephen performs in a big-screen action role when he plays Casey Jones in the highly-anticipated film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.

However, did you know that actor Stephen Amell was also an expert on airplane etiquette? The 34-year-old actor opened up to his 4.9 million followers on Facebook Saturday with a story about his love for travel that eventually transitioned into a practical lesson on proper airplane etiquette.

Amell started off his lengthy Facebook post by reminding his fans and followers of the fact that he travels on a regular basis. According to Stephen, on average, the Arrow actor is on a plane every six or seven days. Therefore, he has no problem with identifying himself as an “expert traveler,” especially when it comes to how he prepares for each trip.

“I take great care to curate each trip. I book flights long in advance. I’m anal about using the correct mileage plan. I have preferred airlines. Traveling shoes. Noise canceling headphones. An iPad with an extensive library of movies and tv shows. The bundled wifi package for maximum monthly savings. I have a freaking neck pillow that packs away neatly so I don’t have to wear it through the airport like some sort of wild animal.”

Stephen Amell goes on to explain that his seat selection is also part of his regular travel routine along with his systematic selection process which is primarily based on the time of day his flight is scheduled. If it’s a morning flight, Stephen prefers a window seat. On the other hand, he goes with an aisle seat for the majority of his evening flights.

However, his systematic approach to travel was apparently derailed this year since he has encountered “a string of occasions” where other people essentially ruined his well-prepared plans. Even though he gets on the plane last, Amell’s advance preparation, planning, and reservations should ensure that his selected seat is still available when he finally does board the plane.

Stephen claims that has not been the case on recent flights. In some cases, the people that have taken his seat want to sit next to their friends, spouses, etc. However, in other cases, Stephen claims that the people taking his seats have just been “a**holes.”

Stephen further states that there are some people who have “asked” him to move seats, but disguised their overall expectation that he would do so as an apparent request — a disguise which he admits drives him crazy.

That is where the practical lesson in airplane etiquette presents itself within Stephen Amell’s Facebook post.

“You don’t always have to be nice. You don’t always have to be accommodating. If you were the one who prepared – for a weekend trip to work / see your family, or any other activity that requires planning – and someone else didn’t, tough s**t for them… If someone drops a passive aggressive question that’s actually a demand, always say no. It feels tremendous. Look the person in the eye to for a good five or six seconds after you say no as well. If they walked into the encounter just assuming you’d capitulate to their selfish, subverting would be query, they will never ever have a comeback.”

That is exactly what happened to Stephen during his flight Saturday morning – and he enjoyed every minute of it!

From the concluding statement of his Facebook post, Stephen Amell describes a scene from the 2011 film Moneyball starring Brad Pitt and Chris Pratt, which he was apparently watching on the flight. As Stephen pumped his “fist like Pitt does in the trainers room” and the person sitting next to him “in the seat they were assigned” sulked, the actor simply states that “it felt great.”
