Have You Tried Ben & Jerry’s Bernie Sanders’ Flavor, Bernie’s Yearning Ice Cream?

When Ben & Jerry of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream support you, they do it in a big way, by naming a new flavor of ice cream in your honor. Bernie Sanders not only has the support of Ben & Jerry, but they named a minty chocolate confection in his honor, Bernie’s Yearning.

According to KUOW Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream have fully backed Bernie Sanders for president, and in doing so, created a new twist on mint chip in his honor. KUOW interviewed Ben Cohen about the support, and of course, the ice cream.

“Bernie’s Yearning is essentially mint chocolate chip ice cream. However, all the chips have somehow floated to the top.”

But Cohen explains there is a right way to eat the new Ben & Jerry’s flavor, Bernie’s Yearning, and it of course, is a metaphor for the candidate Bernie Sanders, and his philosophy.

“The huge chocolate disk at the top represents all the wealth that’s gone to the top 1 percent. And the way you eat it is you take your soup spoon and you whack it into a bunch of little pieces, and then you mix it around and have a more equitable distribution of wealth.”

Ben Cohen explained that ice cream is on the backburner right now for Ben & Jerry’s, as they are on a political track right now, supporting their candidate, Vermont’s own Bernie Sanders. Ben & Jerry’s, the ice cream company, obviously continues, but Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield are not personally involved in the day to day of ice cream making, so they are throwing their energy right now into backing their candidate, Bernie Sanders.

Ben Cohen explained “he’s our guy cause we’ve been his constituents for over 30 years.” They’ve never campaigned for another presidential candidate before because they say that there’s never been a presidential candidate worth campaigning for before. Now that’s support for your candidate.

Cosmopolitan explains that though having the support of Ben & Jerry’s is a huge deal, even more important is the fact that Bernie’s Yearning is delicious. Though Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield might not look fancy, stumping for Bernie Sanders on his campaign outings, there is no denying the significance of having local guys with huge wallets on your team.

And what would sweeten the deal for attending a political rally? Well, ice cream, of course. And not just any ice cream, but the flavor named for Bernie Sanders, with the candidate’s face on the carton. And what makes it even more special? The flavor is a limited edition, and not just everyone can get their hands or taste buds on some minty, chocolate goodness that is Bernie’s Yearning.

Gothamist covered the Ben & Jerry’s meets Bernie Sanders event in Washington Square Park, where all the guys wore t-shirts supporting their candidate, and giving out scoops of Bernie’s Yearning. The event also encouraged folks to not only support Bernie Sanders, but to consider volunteering for him, too. A scoop of Bernie’s Yearning for you, so that maybe you’ll stump for Bernie in the future.

CNBC reports that Ben & Jerry’s, as well as Ben and Jerry, don’t only support Bernie Sanders because he is a local guy that has been representing their state, Vermont, for thirty years, but because Bernie Sanders actually represents their interests, and the interests of Vermont, and as they say, the entire country.

“It’s all supported by the ultra-wealthy and the corporations, and that’s the elephant in the room that nobody except Bernie wants to address.”

A representative for Ben & Jerry’s says that each event is different, but there will be more events, supporting Bernie Sanders, that include ice cream.
