‘Destiny’ PlayStation Exclusives For April Update Revealed With A ‘Killer Queen’ Sniper

Bungie still has contractual obligations for PlayStation exclusive content for Destiny it has to fulfill. This includes the 2.2 update coming on Tuesday, April 12. The developer and Sony revealed a new Quest Friday, along with new armor, a sparrow, and a Queen-themed Sniper Rifle that’s guaranteed to blow PS4 and PS4 owners’ minds.

The Playstation-exclusive quest will come from Petra Venj in the Reef and is called “Essence of Darkness.” The quest appears to take place in and around the Court of Oryx based on the screenshots with a showdown against a giant sword-wielding Hive Knight. The reward for completing the final mission in the quest is the also exclusive Velumbra Sparrow.

All three Destiny sub-classes will also receive Playstation exclusive armor sets. Warlocks get Barkhan Dune I, Hunters will have access to Long Tomorrow 9G, and Titans receive the Jovian Guard. This armor can be obtained via decrypting Sublime Engrams.

Finally, the Zen Meteor is the new exclusive Exotic Sniper Rifle for PlayStation Destiny players. The intrinsic “Dynamite” perk grants explosive rounds and rapid kills with every round in the clip load and extra, higher-damage rounds for five seconds. This is paired with the “With a Laser Beam” perk so that the extra round from “Dynamite” causes a massive explosion.

This is a play on the song “Killer Queen” from Queen. The 1974 song from the British rock band includes the following lyrics:

She’s a Killer Queen
Gunpowder, gelatin
Dynamite with a laser beam
Guaranteed to blow your mind

If this plays out like Year Two, Destiny players on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 will receive these items in September or later, depending on how the contract with Sony plays out. Bungie hasn’t announced details yet, but the DLC plans for Year Two changed significantly. A paid DLC is due out this fall, with a sequel coming in 2017.

The Destiny 2.2 update is a sizable stopgap update to the game to provide a bridge to next DLC release in the fall. The April update is completely free and adds new PVE content to the game as well as rebalances the weapons and Crucible activities.

As previously covered by The Inquisitr, the Light level cap is being raised from 320 to 335 to provide players new opportunities to progress further in the game. An all new “Pretender to Throne” questline is being added, with new story missions that conclude with an all new Strike called “The Taken Chalice.” Players will hunt down the hulking Malock to prevent him becoming the new Taken King.

Additionally, the existing Winter’s Run Strike is being given a Taken remix version that upgrades it so it can be included in the Vanguard Heroic Strike playlist and Nightfall rotation. It even includes a version of the Archon Priest boss that has been “Taken-fied” by Bungie.

The big addition, though, will be the new Prison of Elders activities. A new Level 41 matchmade encounter will be added with a recommended Light level of 260. There is also a new Challenge of Elders version with a 320 Light level that will rotate new modifiers each week. It is played in three rounds against with a fight against an existing or one of four new bosses during each round. Rewards for completing the round with certain scores include 335 Light gear.

Bungie also revealed new armor sets and weapons coming to Destiny with the April update. There’s a new Desolate armor set that grants a Taken look to a character when the full set is equipped. There are also a new Chroma sets of armor and weapons that players can customize to be highlighted with one of four different colors.

The final preview released by Bungie today revealed gun-balancing changes to Destiny, along with some important changes to Crucible. Even the Warlock sub-classes received some tweaks.
