Lauren Scruggs Talks Life After Accident

Lauren Scruggs made national news last year when she lost an eye and a hand after walking into a plane’s propeller on the runway at a Dallas airport. Despite her injuries, the aspiring fashion blogger still has an optimistic outlook on life.

Scruggs appeared on Today this morning to talk to Savannah Gurthrie from London’s Olympic Village.

Scruggs said:

“I’m feeling good… I think, physically, it’s good that I’m off my pain medication and haven’t had pain since January, so that’s a blessing. Emotionally, days are hard sometimes, just accepting the loss of my eye and hand, but it just gets better and I realize that God is in control of my life and there’s a purpose in this story. Spiritually, I’ve just learned to live by faith and not by sight. It’s just good to be out in public just as I am and to let people know that I’m doing OK and healing.”

Scruggs, who filed a lawsuit after her accident, said that she doesn’t really remember what happened.

Scruggs said:

“I remember my feet touching the ground and getting out of the plane, but that’s all I remember.”

Scruggs and Guthrie also talked about the Olympics and the aspiring fashion blogger said that she was particular inspired by Gabby Douglas. Coincidentally (oh the magic of TV), Douglas surprised Scruggs with a hug and some encouraging words.

Douglas said:

“This means so much to me. Keep staying strong. Keep smiling,”
