‘RHONY’ Newcomer Jules Wainstein Responds To Bethenny Frankel’s Weight Comments
In her first Bravo blog post, The Real Housewives of New York City’s new cast member Jules Wainstein reacted to Bethenny Frankel comparing her to her mother, in that she thinks that they both share an eating disorder. While Jules admitted that she was “caught off guard” by Bethenny’s comments, she didn’t lash out at Bethenny for suggesting that she has an eating disorder or deny it. Instead, she put a positive spin on Bethenny’s comments.
“I was excited to meet the infamous Bethenny. We have similar friends, kids the same age, and I thought out of this group of girls we had the most in common. I’m not gonna lie, I was kind of caught off guard watching the brunch at Catch, because usually when I meet someone for the first time I like to get to know them. It seems like Bethenny likes to figure out which label fits best…not just with me but clearly with Dorinda [Medley], as well, and I feel this may be a reoccurring theme. Anyways, if I remind her of her mother and she is anything like my mom–gorgeous, smart and put together–I’ll take it!”
On the Season 8 premiere episode, Dorinda Medley introduced Jules to the group. Over brunch, Bethenny, sitting right next to Jules, whispered concern to Dorinda about Jules’ weight.
“She reminds me of my mom in a way. The long hair, like she’s so thin…When I say someone’s thin, that’s something. Freaks me out a little bit…Reminds me of my mother. Freaks me out a little bit.”
In her confessional interview, Bethenny gave her opinion that Jules has an eating disorder.
“She looks like a really thin girl. Like, she looks like there’s an issue. I wrote a book called Naturally Thin, this is not naturally thin. It’s the kind of thin that makes people around you uncomfortable. I never had an eating disorder. I had a mother who had an eating disorder but I’ve been around it and I understand it.”
After making the weight comments at brunch, Bethenny then told Jules, who just said that she loves to put her long hair in a bun, that she could be Princess Lei for Halloween. As for Jules’ husband, who was sitting across from them, Bethenny said that he could be R2D2. Bethenny burst out in laughter and apologized while laughing. Jules and her husband laughed off Bethenny’s R2D2 comment.
In her confessional interview, Dorinda, who had warned Bethenny to not make any references to Jules’ husband’s height, expressed incredulous at what came out of Bethenny’s mouth.
“R2D2?! Stop! Don’t say those things.”
As the episode aired, Bethenny shared her thoughts and opinions on Twitter. She joked about her comment that Jules’ husband can be R2D2.

In her own blog post, Bethenny revealed that viewers will see her get into some drama with Jules, who “fights dirty.”
“Jules is the new girl. She and I have our own journey. She gets slightly dirty, but overall she is pretty much out of the fray.”
After the premiere episode aired, Bethenny Frankel appeared on Andy Cohen’s talk show Watch What Happens Live. During her appearance, Bethenny talked about her first impression of Jules Wainstein. Bethenny suggested that she doesn’t think Jules has much to offer.
“Beautiful and she, you know, has a credit card so there’s that but…”
On the after show portion of the show, a viewer called in and asked Bethenny why she gives the show’s newcomers a hard time, in reference to Bethenny comments and behavior towards Jules this season, as well as how she behaved towards Erika Girardi when the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast went to the Hamptons and had dinner at Bethenny’s vacation home. Bethenny said that Erika’s music video failed to be as avant-garde as it wanted, didn’t have good production value, and featured a “cheesy” bed. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, after that episode aired, Bethenny admitted that she was “judgy.”

Bethenny said that she’s outspoken with not just new housewives likes Jules Wainstein but with everyone. She pointed out that she gets criticized by others and that it comes with the Real Housewives of New York City territory.
“As far as the new girl Jules, we have a little bit of a rocky road. Ultimately we’re okay but listen, they come in, I’ll say what I think. Doesn’t matter whether you’re new or old. I have ripped Ramona and LuAnn and had arguments with everyone and I have been ripped by Ramona on the Brooklyn Bridge and don’t hate the player, hate the game baby.”
