Watch Borussia Dortmund Vs. Liverpool FC Live Stream: UEFA Europa League Quarterfinal, Start Time, Preview

Liverpool travel to Germany to take on Bundesliga powerhouse Borussia Dortmund in a UEFA Europa League semifinal that will stream live Thursday, as Liverpool attempt to power their way to the Europa League semifinals in what is likely their sole bid for Champions League football next season, or any European football at all.

The match marks the first return of former Dortmund Manager Jurgen Klopp (pictured above), who led the team to the UEFA Champions League final in 2013, only to lose to Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich. Klopp, who guided the club from 2008, departed Dortmund following the 2015 campaign, saying that he wanted time off from football.

But in October of the same year, he accepted the post at the helm of Liverpool, the once-mighty Barclays Premier League side that has spent the past few seasons struggling to reignite its former glory.

Liverpool currently sit ninth on the Premier League table, nine points off of Manchester City in the fourth and final Champions League qualifying spot and eight points behind Manchester United in the fifth-place Europa League qualifying position with eight games remaining on their league schedule.

In other words, winning UEFA Europa League may be Liverpool’s last, best hope of getting into the 2016-2017 Champions League. But the road through Dortmund will not be an easy one. The German giants, now under the stewardship of Manager Thomas Tuchel, trail the only perennial champions, Bayern, on the Bundesliga table.

As crucial as this, and every Europa League match is to the future of the Liverpool club, the return of Klopp to Dortmund has overshadowed any other story leading up to the match.

Klopp, for his part, has promised not to be sentimental on his return and to celebrate any goal scored by his new charges in the red shirts.

“If after seven years they don’t know me well enough that my team should score and I will celebrate, what can I say?” Klopp told The Guardian newspaper on Wednesday.

“If it’s in the first minute I don’t know, I won’t go running down the line. But if it’s important, decisive, in this moment that’s what happens. It’s not that I plan this but I will not take some pills to stop me from celebrating a goal.”

Dortmund advanced to the quarterfinal by blowing away another Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur, by an aggregate score of 5-1. Tottenham now sit second in the Premier League and have at least a shot at winning the league.

In other words, Liverpool have their work cut out for them on Thursday.
