Nicki Minaj Avoids An Almost Crippling Copyright Lawsuit

Nicki Minaj is no doubt one of the best female rappers in the hip hop industry. Currently aged 33 and born in Trinidad and Tobago, she is known to be feisty when rattled. Recently, she was linked to a leaked video in which Nick Young, Iggy Azalea’s fiancé, confesses to infidelity.

The clip, which was leaked on Snapchat, was said to have been taped by D’Angelo Russell, Nick’s teammate, but somehow, a member of Nicki Minaj’s crew got his hands on it and leaked it through Fameolous. The following is an excerpt of the report according to Radar.

“Somebody from Nicki Minaj’s camp, a source, got the video and they sent it in,” a writer for Fameolous, who broke the story, said on the HD Show. “They said, ‘Here put this out because Iggy want to talk mess about Nicki Minaj, put this out and let her know what her fiancé is doing.’ That’s the real story behind this.”

In the clip, Nick says that he was 30 and Iggy was 19 at the time of the infidelity. The following is the video.

According to the reporter who first talked about it, the main reason for revealing it was, “They wanted to make Iggy basically shut up,”

Apparently, Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea have a strained relationship following the latter’s insinuation that the “Anaconda” artist doesn’t write her own rhymes. This was while she was on Watch What Happens Live. The following was her statement.

“I have just as many people on my writing credits as she has on hers so… I know I write mine, and if she writes hers, I believe her too. But you can’t look at the credits and be like, ‘Oh look at this massive difference!’ It’s the same number of people on both, so.”

Presently, Nick, who plays for the Lakers, has been put out of rotation by Byron Scott, the team’s head coach, because of his present woes. The following is his statement in regard to this.

“It has nothing to do with chemistry. It has everything to do with basketball,” Lakers head coach Byron Scott told reporters Monday on the decision to sit Young for the past 11 games. “Right now, I know what he’s going through, and I know it’s hard on him. But he’s not here with us, mentally, and there’s no need for me to put him out there on the floor.”

This is as reported by the NY Post.

Away from that, Nicki Minaj had recently been entangled in a lawsuit involving wigs with Terrence Davidson, who previously created wig designs for her. In documents filed, he alleged that Nicki Minaj stole and sold his hair designs.

The case is said to have been previously dismissed in a New York court as there were no agreements between the two indicating who owned the rights, but later on, he appealed and won at a Georgia State Appeal Court, allowing him to proceed with his lawsuit. Nicki Minaj is said to have stated that Davidson’s wig designs weren’t copyrighted and so she wasn’t infringing on any copyright violations by selling similar-looking wigs.

Presently, both parties are said to have settled the lawsuit out of court, with Davidson filing documents dismissing the 30 million dollar lawsuit against the rapper. If successful, it would have crippled Nicki Minaj’s wig venture.
