Charlie Hunnam And Robert Pattinson Meet Cannibals And Explore The Amazon In 'Lost City Of Z' Trailer

Fans have now been treated to the first look at Robert Pattinson and Charlie Hunnam in James Gray's upcoming film, The Lost City of Z. It may have been long in coming, but the first trailer for the upcoming movie has been released. What can fans expect to unfold when the two stars encounter cannibals in their jungle adventure?

According to Slash Film, The Lost City of Z is based on the book by David Grann of the same title. The story is set in the early 1900s and follows the life of Colonel Percy Fawcett, a British explorer who undertook missions to survey the Amazon jungle. During one of his attempts to locate a city in the jungle, Fawcett and the rest of his men mysteriously disappeared.

Over the years, researchers and historians alike have attempted to uncover what happened to Fawcett and his men in the Amazon jungle. While many suspect that he became the victim of native violence, nothing definitive has ever surfaced. Considering the violent possibilities, it will be interesting to see how the film interprets the final moments of Fawcett's life and whether or not they portray him as finding the fabled city.

This is an interesting change of pace for the Sons of Anarchy alum and will mark his first lead role in a major film since the end of the hit biker series.

Interestingly, the Sons of Anarchy star was not the first choice to play Fawcett in the film. According to Screen Crush, Brad Pitt was actually first in line for the part. However, Pitt is now working as one of the executive producers and backed out of the role. The part then went to Benedict Cumberbatch, who was also forced to decline due to conflicts in scheduling.

Pattinson, meanwhile, is playing the part of Fawcett's close friend and associate, Henry Costin. Despite rocking a massive beard for the role, this will be the first time the former Twilight star has worked alongside Hunnam in a film. Considering the star power involved, The Lost City of Z is sure to attract plenty of fans when it opens in theaters.

Rounding out the remaining cast members are Sienna Miller, who is playing Fawcett's wife, Nina, and Tom Holland, who portrays an explorer in Fawcett's ill-fated company. Holland is also set to appear in Marvel's upcoming blockbuster, Captain America: Civil War, as the new Spider-man.

Fortunately, that all changed with the release of the new trailer, which can be viewed on Complex. Based on the footage in the trailer, fans can expect plenty of action as Hunnam and Pattinson head into the jungle, including an interesting meetup a group of cannibals.

In addition to the trailer, Holland uploaded a still shot from the set on his Instagram account. The image features Hunnam in action alongside one of fellow explorers. Both men are surrounded by a group of hostile natives, who appear more than ready to ascend on them.

Apart from the aforementioned cast, the trailer also revealed a few surprising guest stars that will make an appearance in the movie. This includes the likes of Ian McDiarmid, who played Chancellor Palpatine in the Star Wars prequels, and Harry Melling, who graced the big screens as Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter films.
