Harry Styles Was Asked For A Selfie At His Grandmother’s Funeral: His Sister Gemma Unloads

Harry Styles has been watched, followed, and photographed at every turn for over five years now. It is something he had to get used to as a member of One Direction. Harry usually enjoys taking pictures with fans and likes being approached by those who recognize him, provided it is done in a respectful way at appropriate times. A funeral is simply not the right time, as Gemma Styles can attest.

Harry Styles’ sister, Gemma, enjoys Harry’s fans too, but sometimes it is just too much. Gemma Styles, who is a columnist for the Debrief, had a rant in her opinion column recently about selfies. Gemma is well aware of her brother’s lost privacy and had something to say about fans wanting selfies at inappropriate times.

“I do understand the rise of the selfie. It has essentially replaced the custom of getting an autograph from someone. Now everyone has cameras on them at all times, it’s a more personal way of remembering an occasion when you met someone you admire, fine. But there has got to be a line somewhere… At the risk of sounding horrendously British – have a bit of bloody decorum, will you?”

Harry Styles’ fans sometimes talk to Gemma Styles on social media. Gemma has said she enjoys that. She also knows that many of them read her column. It is only when fans, media, and opportunistic hackers take advantage of her little brother or their family that she gets protective. Having fans and publicity can be a great thing, but there have been just a few times when it has been really difficult to tolerate. Gemma described an extremely thoughtless incident at their Grandmother’s funeral.

“My most frustrating personal experience of this was the ‘friend’/distant relative at my grandma’s funeral who was trying to bring in her granddaughter or niece or someone to have a picture with my brother. At a funeral. Our grandmother’s funeral. ‘Smh’ doesn’t really cover it.”

Harry Styles and family had another situation less than a month ago, when his mother’s iCloud was hacked. The hackers stole personal photos of Harry with his ex-girlfriend Kendall Jenner as Hollywood Life reported. It probably put even more strain on an already failing relationship. Kendall has not responded publicly about the photos, however.

Harry and Gemma Styles’ mother, Anne, felt responsible, because it was her iCloud. She deleted all her social media accounts and felt she could no longer participate in online activities because she had been used in this way.

Gemma took to Twitter, furious that her mother was upset. She tweeted to the thieves and let them know how hurtful the situation had been for Anne.

“Please note: my mum is not back on Twitter, any new accounts are fake… To those making them — has her life not been violated enough for you?”

Harry Styles has been relatively silent on the issue of the stolen photos, even when his big sister, Gemma, was being fiercely protective of the family. An insider told Hollywood Life that Harry had taken even this in stride.

“Harry’s brushing it off as one of those things, it’s not affecting him, While they were private photos, and not meant to be seen by anyone else other than his close friends and family, there was nothing incriminating in them that could hurt him or his image, which means he’s not really bothered personally. However, he’s always been very protective of his mom and the fact that Anne has become the target of hackers does upset him.”

Harry Styles is not complaining, but his sister Gemma feels a need to speak up and defend the family.
