Jodie Sweetin Celebrates Sobriety Through ‘DWTS’ Performance

Full House actress Jodie Sweetin celebrated her sobriety and her comeback from an unhealthy lifestyle via her performance on Dancing with the Stars.

The actress took a break from the acting scene to attend college, and after that, she developed a meth addiction in her early 20s. The bad phase in her career took a turn for the worse in 2005 when she was hospitalized after a night of partying.

The theme of the latest episode of Dancing with the Stars focused on the most memorable years of the contestants. Fuller House star Jodie Sweetin chose to honor the year 2015, as it was the year that the remake of the show she was once part became a reality.

The actress said that her life has changed for the better after she got called about reprising her role as Stephanie Tanner in the new Netflix show. During the pre-dance package, the actress said that after the announcement about Fuller House was made, she felt like she received a gift, as she got a chance to go back to doing what she loves.

The actress shared, “When the original Full House wrapped, I was 13 years old. It was a huge shift in my life. Everything that I’d known from the time I was five years old suddenly ended, and it was saying goodbye to a family that I loved very, very much.”

She confessed that at a young age, it was a tremendous loss for her, and she didn’t know how to grieve. She then turned to alcohol and drugs to “sort of numb” everything that she was feeling. The actress went on to reveal that she also abused cocaine and ecstasy.

The mother of two added, “The darkest moments for me weren’t necessarily ending up in the hospital and all that. It was those quiet moments alone when I’d just hated the person I’d become.”

Jodie Sweetin also said that when she was a little girl, she possessed a “shine and brightness,” but at a certain point in her life, her shine got dimmer. Being able to dance for Dancing with the Stars meant regaining that shine.

She continued, “I dimmed my light for a long time and I don’t feel like I have to do that anymore.”

The actress has now been sober for five years, and she said that through her sobriety, she can be happy with simpler things. Her Full House co-stars Lori Loughlin and Bob Saget supported her while she was a part of the show.

Lori Loughlin gave a message to the actress saying that her life is inspiring. Bob Saget had nothing but kind words and added that his co-star is a great mom. He also stated that he thinks the biggest accomplishment of Jodie Sweetin is being “incredibly real” and honest.

The latest performance of Jodie Sweetin with Keo Motsepe got two eights and a seven from the judges. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba lauded the actress’ authenticity and noted that the performance was the most inspiring in the latest episode of the show. The parents and fiancé of the sitcom star watched her performance from the audience.

Sweetin has definitely been able to turn her life around from her troubled past. She married her second husband, Cody Herpin, two years after her hospitalization. She then gave birth to their daughter, Zoie in 2008. Two years after, she had her second daughter named Beatrix with singer Morty Coyle, whom she married back in 2012.

The actress and the musician separated a year after, and now she is engaged to Justin Hodak.
