‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Audition Tape Shows Tough, Vulnerable Daisy Ridley

While no one knew the power of Daisy Ridley prior to the global release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December 2015, her name seems to be everywhere now. With the launch of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on DVD, Digital, and Blu-ray today, Daisy Ridley’s audition tape for what was undoubtedly the role that launched her has surfaced.

The audition, included as part of the extras on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens DVD, according to Nerdist, shows how readily Daisy Ridley was able to channel the vulnerability and toughness that defined the character of the scavenger Rey.

“We needed someone who could be vulnerable,” Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams says on the video clip.

He acknowledged just how powerful Daisy Ridley was in her audition and added that once Daisy Ridley had auditioned, it was fairly quickly realized that she had the ability to pull off what they were looking for in the part of Rey.

Daisy Ridley also showed some serious ability to throw down rhymes in the extras on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens DVD and Blu-ray release, according to NME. She and John Boyega, who played the defecting stormtrooper Finn, demonstrated their musical ability by rapping about their experiences in making the film.

Daisy Ridley has become a force to be reckoned with since the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and she continues to demonstrate a great deal of effervescent good humor when discussing her part in the ongoing Star Wars saga.

“I know what people liked in [The Force Awakens] and now I feel like I’m carrying that responsibility, which is nicer cause I feel like I’m more part of it,” Daisy Ridley said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “I couldn’t say I’m enjoying either one more. It’s all this incredible journey. And then if I am in 9, all three will be one amazing journey that involves thousands of people. I think of Episodes VII, VIII, and IX as part of one experience, not three different ones.”

Fans are also breathlessly awaiting news as to whether or not the Tomb Raider rumors of Daisy Ridley taking on the role of Lara Croft are true. According to Vine Report, nothing is official, but there are reports that Daisy Ridley is currently in negotiations to fill Lara Croft’s shoes. The role was previously played by Angelina Jolie back in the late 1990s.

Boyega reportedly is one who would be excited to see Daisy Ridley take on the role of the famous adventurer.

“I played ‘Tomb Raider’ the game; it’s a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version,” Boyega said. “But I texted Daisy [and] was like, ‘This is you!’ and ‘You need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.’ She should be.”

Daisy Ridley has also gained the notice of legendary singer Barbra Streisand, with whom she sang a few weeks ago. Abrams noted that Ridley surprised him when she started singing on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

“One day on set, she just started singing and had the most beautiful voice I ever heard,” he said of Daisy Ridley’s voice, according to Just Jared.

She has also demonstrated her singing voice in a duet with The Force Awakens co-star Oscar Isaac during initial press tours for the movie.

If Daisy Ridley showed someone, somewhere that she could also dance, the actress would undoubtedly become the latest triple threat to join the Hollywood elite. For now, though, filming on Star Wars: Episode VIII is keeping Daisy Ridley predictably busy, and for the future, perhaps some tomb raiding? Fans can only continue to hope.
