Actress Tisha Campbell Of ‘Martin’ Fame And Husband File For Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

Popular actress Tisha Campbell of Martin fame and her husband Duane have apparently fallen on troubling times. It has now been revealed that the couple filed for a chapter 7 bankruptcy at the beginning of the year, listing a total debt of approximately $15 million dollars. The bankruptcy is now pending in a federal court.

According to the New York Daily News, the couple’s expenses are roughly double that of their reported $7,655 monthly income.

They only have $200 in cash on hand and $173 deposited in a credit union account, writes the Daily Mail. Their creditors include banks, the city of Los Angeles, the State Board of Equalization, the state for back taxes owed, and the New York State Department of Taxation. In addition, they also owe numerous entities for automobile leases, American Express, multiple banks, student loans, and many other companies. The couple owes Sallie Mae $17,000 for a student loan that they took out on behalf of their nephew.

The couple owns a fleet of vehicles that include a Jeep Wrangler, two Range Rovers, a Kawasaki Drifter, and a Yamaha Scooter. Of the vehicles that are still being leased or financed, they owe $43,000 for the 2016 Range Rover, $67,000 on the 2014 Range Rover, and $17,000 on the 2016 Jeep Wrangler.

In their court filing, the value of their two dogs was listed as $2.

They claim total assets valued at $313,000 that include $65,000 worth of real estate and $248,000 in personal property. Claimed as assets in personal property are $2,500 worth of jewelry, $2,500 in electronics, $2,500 of sports and hobby equipment, $15,000 worth of household goods, and only $1,000 worth of clothing.

Campbell and her husband are business owners in addition to being actors. Court documents show that they own a restaurant in Sherman Oaks, California, and a production company. The couple states that their restaurant is no longer profitable and that they are unsure if a contract for Campbell handled through their production company will be renewed this year. The contract is for a recurring starring role on The Dr. Ken Show, and they say that that contract represents a significant portion of their income. Husband Duane is also a real estate developer.

The 47-year-old actress and her 50-year-old husband are both well known in entertainment circles. Although Campbell made her primary claim to fame when she co-starred as Gina, the on-screen girlfriend of Martin Lawrence, on the Martin show, she has also been cast in a number of other roles in both movies and sitcoms. Martin ran from 1992 to 1997. Her screen credits also include Dr. Ken and My Wife and Kids. Her husband Duane has starred on Real Husbands of Hollywood and White Men Can’t Jump.

Tisha is also a singer and released a single, “Steel Here,” in late 2015. Earlier this year, she released another single along with an accompanying video.

Campbell came out publicly with a stunning personal secret two years ago, writes NewsOne, that stunned all of her devoted and loyal fans. While appearing on The Daily Helpline she told the world that she had been raped at the age of three by an older man.

During that appearance, she offered advice to another young woman who had been raped.

“You can no longer be a victim, you have to be victorious at this point. You can’t play the victim because at this point, I’m not saying this to put you down or anything. What I’m saying is that he is winning, and you are allowing him to win. You are making a conscious decision to harm yourself, to hurt yourself and allow this person to still have dominion over your life. You can’t do that anymore.”

Campbell and her husband have been married for 20 years and have two sons, 15 and 6 years of age.
