‘Star Ocean: Integrity And Faithlessness’ Release Date, Day One Edition Revealed

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Star Ocean series, Square Enix has revealed the North American launch details for Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness. The newest and fifth installment of the Star Ocean series is being released on June 28 for the PlayStation 4. In addition to the standard release, a physical Collector’s Edition and Day One edition are being made available. Players who pre-order automatically get a Day One edition of the game, which includes bonus DLC items.

The Day One edition comes with two background music (BGM) tracks from the Valkyrie Profile series. While playing Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, players can change up the game’s default BGM to some of the battle tracks from Valkyrie Profile games using this distinctive DLC feature. In addition to the bonus DLC, the Day One edition comes with five exclusive digital items. Per the image provided by Square Enix, these items provide significant stat boosts. The full list is provided below, including a description of each item’s effects per the promotional graphic.

  • Ring of the Valkyries — “Increases ATK, INT and Critical”
  • Gold Bunny Statue — “Increases EXP and FOL”
  • Bushybrume Cincture — “Reduces amount of MP used”
  • Secret Sthalian Tome — “Increases HP healed”
  • Wristlet of the Stars — “Reduces damage taken”

The only other way to score these five exclusive DLC items is through the Collector’s Edition. The Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness CE includes everything in the Day One edition, plus additional physical and digital perks. In addition to the two Valkyrie Profile music tracks that can be played during Star Ocean battle sequences, owners of the Collector’s Edition get four extra songs, for a total of six new battle tunes. The tracks hail from previous Star Ocean games, Valkyrie Profile, and Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria.

Physical goodies for the Collector’s Edition include an exclusive Steelbook game case, sixteen-song soundtrack sampler CD titled The Sounds of Star Ocean, 80-page hardcover art book featuring art from several Star Ocean series, a Federation ID card, and eight exclusive art cards. The Collector’s Edition is limited to only 7,500 copies, but it is only being sold on the Square Enix Online Store for $109.99. The Day One edition and standard game are just $59.99.

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness recently made its debut in Japan on March 31. Sales figures are pending release. The previous week saw Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 on the Nintendo 3DS along with Dark Souls III on PlayStation 4. According to VGChartz, in their first week, these titles sold about 370,200 and 215,900 units, respectively. It may be interesting to see how sales turn out in Japan. On that note, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness Producer Shuichi Kobayashi has passed on a special message to longtime fans and curious newcomers via the official PlayStation Blog.

“It’s been a while since our previous title, but the time has come for us to share the ‘story of the sea of stars’ with everyone once again. I am personally really happy to be able to take part in the revival of the series that I truly love. I believe that there is significance in announcing this title at a time when there aren’t many JRPG consumer titles being released compared to before.

“The series’ traditional exhilarating action battle has evolved with a party of a maximum of 7 characters, with easier-to-create combos. We have also prepared many elements that let you play for hours on end, so I hope you give it a try.

“I hope for your continued support so that the story of the sea of stars can continue even more.”
