President Obama Praises Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman Performance

Your mom and dad’s unending elation regarding The Princess Diary star Anne Hathaway’s performance in director Christopher Nolan’s summer epic The Dark Knight Rises has some seriously authoritative company. President Barack Obama was also seriously impressed with the actress’ turn as Catwoman in the latest installment of the caped crusader’s popular franchise.

“She’s spectacular. I got a chance to see ‘Batman,’ and she was the best thing in it,” Obama told MTV News. “That’s just my personal opinion.”

The President gave his short review of the flick during a fundraiser held at movie producer Harvey Weinstein’s Connecticut home. Also in attendance at the event were Anne Hathaway, Aaron Sorkin, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and last but certainly not least, Jerry Springer. Tickets for the event were reportedly $35,800 a piece.

Pop culture website Complex noted that Anne Hathaway contributed a wad of cash to President Obama’s re-election campaign, though I’m sure that had nothing whatsoever to do with his critique of Hathaway’s cinematic performance. She is, after all, one of the true highlights of the feature.

Hathaway, who described her body-hugging Catwoman outfit as a “psychological terrorist”, said she isn’t above donning the costume once again should Christopher Nolan and company decide to pursue a big-screen spin-off. I, for one, wholly support this idea.

“If he’s interested, I’m very interested,” Hathaway said of a possible follow-up. “I think it would be lovely to see more of her, but only if it’s with the right people. She lives in this Gotham City, and so it would have to be established by the people who have made this Gotham City. For me, at least.”

Unfortunately for Batman nerds across the planet — myself included — Nolan has said that he’s done with the Batman mythos. So unless he decides to return to Gotham City somewhere down the line, I wouldn’t get too excited about a possible spin-off.
