Liam Payne, Cheryl Cannot Get Married Soon Due To English Laws

Liam Payne and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini are making headlines because there is a rumor that they could be getting married in the near future.

However, is it likely that Liam Payne and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini will not be marrying legally in the near future because she may still married to her ex for most of 2016? According to KEY 103 and others, Liam Payne’s cousin is claiming that he thinks they could be married in the next few weeks.

Alternatively, is getting married to Liam Payne only six months after he and Sophia Smith broke up a good idea considering that Cheryl is already getting out of a marriage that moved too fast?

According to insiders speaking to the Mirror “In the end Cheryl realized she had married too soon and had been swept away by a bit of a whirlwind romance. Over time it became clear to each of them that they were very different people and from very different worlds.”

Clarke and Son solicitors report that Cheryl and her ex were married on the Caribbean island of Mustique on July 7, 2014. They also mention that part of the reason the two did not work out could be due to a language barrier.

Sadly, ending the marriage may not be easy for Liam Payne’s girlfriend, and earlier in the year, around January 10, OK claimed that Cheryl was not able to divorce until 2017 because she was married in the Caribbean.

The Metro clarifies this by stating “Cheryl Fernandez-Versini will have to stay married to Jean-Bernard for three full years before they’re allowed to divorce thanks to laws on the island where they married.”

Despite this, Liam Payne’s current girlfriend will be eligible to file a U.K. divorce before 2017, according to a law expert.

Nevertheless, unless Cheryl can get a quick divorce soon, she will not be able to marry Liam Payne until she does. Daily Mail claims that polygamy might be legal in the future, but currently the U.K. prohibits marriage to more than one person.

One other possibility is that Cheryl will not divorce her husband because he allegedly wants money and she does not want to give it to him. The Sun reported that Cheryl might be involved with Liam Payne, but her worry is that her ex Jean-Bernard will take millions of her dollars in the divorce.

Insiders claim “[Jean-Bernard] has been coming up with some ridiculous figures as he devises what he thinks is a fair split of their joint assets. He’s said he is looking for £3 million.”

What appears to be holding Cheryl back is the fact that she did not get a prenuptial agreement from her soon-to-be-ex-husband when they got married.

On the other hand, Cheryl may not be worried about her divorce and can put her mind at ease in her new relationship with Liam Payne because of her mother.

The Guardian wrote on March 15, that Cheryl has been the object of criticism in the past by her fans because she listens to her mother’s love advice… sometimes to her detriment.

Thankfully, Cheryl’s mother has already met Liam Payne, and it appears that she approves of their relationship.

Unfortunately, there is someone that might be raising an eyebrow and it is Liam Payne’s ex, Sophia Smith. Speaking with Celebs Now, Sophia Smith says that Liam Payne’s new relationship makes her feel weird.

In the end, could there be wedding bells for Liam Payne and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini in 2016 after all? Although the idea of Liam Payne and Cheryl getting together “in weeks” is just a rumor, Terry & Company solicitors claim that most U.K. divorces take between four and 12 months.

Since Cheryl might have submitted the paperwork for the divorce in early January, according to Hello, this means that Cheryl and Liam Payne could be legally married “in weeks” if that is a goal they prefer.
