Obama Raises $2.3 Million During Posh Hollywood Fundraiser

President Obama turned to his friends in Hollywood on Monday to collect millions of dollars for his campaign efforts. The President attended a posh part at the home of mega-producer Harvey Weinstein where he managed to rake in $2.3 million.

The fundraiser was attended by some of Hollywood’s most elite power players including Anne Hathaway and Vogue magazine editor Anna Wintour. Also in attendance was Jerry Springer, a former politician turned trash-talking talk show host.

President Obama had no problem being cozy with the crowd, speaking about Anne Hathaway he remarked:

“She’s spectacular. I got a chance to see ‘Batman,’ and she was the best thing in it. That’s just my personal opinion.”

President Obama also commented on writer/producer Aaron Sorkin, joking of “The West Wing” writers work that he “writes the way every Democrat in Washington wished they spoke.”

The party was relatively small with just 60 invitees however the cost of a single invitation was a steep $38,500.

In the meantime the Republican National Committee mocked the fundraiser, in a news release the RNC titled their attack, “While Americans Continue To Struggle Under Obamanomics, Obama Takes Another Break To Party With Celebrities.”

The party started immediately after President Obama gave a speech at a Stamford, Connecticut hotel where 500 people paid $500 each to hear him speak. During that speech Obama did less praise and more attacking, specifically against opponent Mitt Romney. In describing Romney’s tax plan Obama joked:

“It’s like Robin Hood in reverse. It’s Romney-hood.”

$2.3 million is no small number for President Obama as his campaign is currently $70+ million in debt and Mitt Romney with the help of various Super-Pac’s managed to out-fundraise the President in July with a take of more than $100 million.
