Norman Reedus Speechless After Watching ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 6 Finale

The Walking Dead Season 6 finale is just days away, and fans are getting really excited to see how it all plays out. We’ve already heard from Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan about how upset the final episode made them when it was time to shoot. Now Norman Reedus is stepping up to talk about his reaction when he watched the TWD finale for the first time.

Josh McDermott, who plays Eugene, also reacted harshly when he read the script for the finale the first time. According to Entertainment Weekly, McDermott said he threw the script across the room after reading through it. The Season 6 finale is going to really upset some fans, but it’s also being called one of the most highly anticipated finales in recent TV, and it’s possibly the most highly anticipated finale in the history of The Walking Dead.

Those were just the reactions from the Walking Dead cast after reading the script, but now Norman Reedus has seen what the finale will look like and said that it left him without words. For those avoiding spoilers, there may be a few below, so read at your own risk.

“I saw a little rough cut of it,” Norman Reedus told EW. “And it’s the most hardcore episode we’ve ever shot. I couldn’t speak after I watched it. And, of course, I knew what was happening, and what was going to happen, and who was involved, but I got to tell you, I couldn’t speak for like an hour. And then I just was bombarded with phone calls on my drive home. But that was a rough, rough, rough cut. I will say that it might be the best episode we’ve ever shot of the show.”

Reedus goes on to talk about the new villain that finally arrives in the finale. Negan is the reason everyone is so upset about the way the 90-minute TWD finale ends. The character played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been described as terrifying, awesome, and even hardcore.

“I’ve known Jeffrey for a long, long time,” said Reedus of the actor playing Negan. “He’s a friend of mine, and I really respect him as an actor. And as a dude, he’s just the best. It’s weird to have such a nice guy playing such an a–hole, you know what I mean? But that’s just the testament to how good he is. So I’m excited to see where he goes and what happens to that guy.”

The Walking Dead Season 6 finale is the second finale in a row to be directed by Greg Nicotero. Even Reedus said that Nicotero has turned into the man who runs the big episodes for the AMC hit. After the big episode is over, Norman Reedus is scheduled to visit The Talking Dead alongside Scott Gimple, who co-wrote the episode, and Robert Kirkman to talk about what just happened.

“Talk about the inner circle, Greg’s one of those people who’s with you from the get-go,” said Reedus, “from the very start of everything you do to the very end of everything you do. He’s one of my best friends and I’ve watched that guy just blow the hell up. He’s an unstoppable force right now on the show.”

Norman Reedus’ character, Daryl Dixon, is one of a few TWD characters rumored to die in the Season 6 finale. Currently, it is unknown which major character is going to get killed by Negan, but we know it will be someone. There are also some pretty big spoilers floating around that claim Negan is only seen in the last 10 minutes or so of the finale, and when he kills one of the survivors from Rick’s group, we won’t actually see who it is or know who dies until the Season 7 premiere in October 2016.

That bit of information has TWD fans in a bit of an uproar, as the anticipation over who will get hit with Negan’s barbed wire-wrapped bat that he calls Lucille has been building for several months now, and the idea of fans waiting another seven months to find out who died just might not be bearable.

The Walking Dead Season 6 finale airs on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
