‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 — Eclipse’ DLC Hitting PS4 In April, Maps And Zombies Detailed

Activision and Treyarch announced the details for the second Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 DLC pack Thursday. Titled “Eclipse,” the expansion brings four new multiplayer maps and continues the Zombie experience from “Awakening.” Naturally, PlayStation 4 owners will receive it before Xbox One and PC players.

The PlayStation 4 will receive Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 – Eclipse first on April 19, 2016, as part of the timed exclusivity deal between Sony and Activision. The Xbox One and PC will receive the pack approximately one month later. The pack can be purchased separately for $15, or as part of the $50 Season Pass, which comes with all four DLC packs at a $10 discount.

Treyarch will officially debut Black Ops 3 – Eclipse during a livestream event that can be watched via YouTube. The developer will be joined by streamer NoahJ456 to talk about the four new multiplayer maps and the new Zombies experience.

The official description of the four maps were shared by Activision and Treyarch, with one a re-imagining of the Call of Duty: World at War map, “Banzai.”

  • Spire: Spire takes Multiplayer combat to a futuristic sub-orbital airport terminal set high in the clouds. Multiple levels and open areas promote intense, mid-range combat around a clean, high-tech civilian environment. Watch your step, because one wrong move could send you plummeting back through the stratosphere.
  • Rift: Head to the core of a harsh futuristic military complex, set high above an active caldera. Rift funnels and forces tight, intense engagements, where the only way through is forward. Utilize the unique core movement opportunities to outsmart and outplay enemies as you traverse the suspended rail system.
  • Knockout: Housed in a traditional Shaolin Temple with a retro twist, Knockout sets the stage for a bloody Kung Fu tournament. This mid-sized map showcases a sharp contrast between the mid-range engagements of the traditional exterior architecture and the tight close-quarters of an eclectic 1970’s styled interior.
  • Verge: In this re-imagination of the classic Call of Duty: World at Warmap, Banzai, Verge drops Multiplayer combat into the center of a distant post-apocalyptic future, where two warring factions are entrenched in constant battle. Take control of the key bridge, fortresses, tunnel systems and waterfalls as you engage in high-speed action through this medium-sized map.

Additionally, the next Zombies entry will move to Zetsubou No Shima. The scene shifts in Black Ops 3 from the castle snowy mountain-side castle of Der Eisendrach to a Pacific jungle island. The four heroes find themselves stranded on the island, which serves as a home to a secret Division 9 biological research lab. That research involves Element 115 and its effects on human, animal, and plant biology. This has naturally generated a variety of new zombie enemies that must be dispatched. Treyarch promises “innovative transport mechanics, more devastating traps and classic Zombies side quests” with the latest episode.

For now, neither the PS3 nor Xbox 360 will receive Eclipse. However, the publisher recently announced Awakening was coming to the Sony’s last-gen console on Tuesday, April 5. A Season Pass option is not available, so it is not clear if this is a one off experiment or if future DLC will also be coming to last-gen.

Meanwhile, PlayStation 4 owners can try the last Black Ops 3 DLC pack, Awakening, for free this weekend, starting Friday at 1 p.m. ET through Monday, April 4 at the same time. PS4 owners will have access to the four multiplayer maps and Der Eisdendrach Zombie adventure from the add-on. Additionally, Double XP and Double Weapon XP will be activated all weekend long on all platforms.
