Reliving A ‘Star Wars’ Fan’s Excitement For ‘The Force Awakens’

Prior to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the talk around the film was whether or not it was going to be worth seeing.

The response to the second set of trilogy films, released at the turn of the century, was full of mixed responses due to some characters that fans reportedly hated and acting that critics didn’t care for. It seemed that older Star Wars fans were essentially left out as the target base for the new set of films.

But when news arrived that director J.J. Abrams would take the reins, it promised a positive direction, and the atmosphere was charged up again. Would Abrams be able to salvage the franchise and put a new spin on things?

He’d already done wonders for Star Trek, and J.J. Abrams fans were pretty certain he would do the same for Star Wars. And when the first trailer finally hit the internet, the reaction from most of the fans was historic, especially with YouTube celebrity Tyrone Magnus, whose reaction video hit over a million and a half views and is perhaps one of the most-watched and genuine reaction videos for the first trailer in the history of viral content.

Be warned that there is some salty language in the video.

More Star Wars reactions would follow after that. One particular one is from a YouTuber who goes by the name Lauren Stardust, which is a play on the David Bowie character.

Unlike Magnus, she doesn’t appear to do videos regularly and only surfaced with one starting with the second Star Wars trailer, which got a more emotional reaction from fans, and her reaction is no exception.

The trailer, in comparison to the first, was more of an event due to the appearance of two of franchise favorites Chewbacca and Han Solo. It was especially so considering how they were placed right at the end, which added an extra emotional beat in order to get an emotional reaction from fans. Again, Lauren Stardust was not left out.

With this second teaser, plenty of questions had been answered, and even some of the hardest of geeks were weakened by the power of the trailer.

Following this, fans would expect the next release would be that of the actual movie, but with a long ways to go, many wondered if there would be another trailer on the way, as The Inquisitr wrote:

J.J. Abrams made this revelation during his recent chat with Extra TV, where he was asked about potential further Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailers, to which he remarked, “The next thing is really gonna be the movie. There will be more commercials, but no more trailers.”

The reaction videos themselves were already building up quite a fan base of viewers so that, when the third trailer was announced, and it was revealed that it would air during Monday Night Football, the hardest of geeks became football fans, long enough to sit through the halftime period to watch it.

Little did anyone understand what they would be in for. Even the viewers of football were contributing to one of the biggest movie ticket presales events in history, breaking records all around, according to Variety and other media sources.

Of course, reaction video fans were already going to YouTube to look for their favorite channels right after it aired, but Lauren Stardust hadn’t uploaded one yet. Well, not immediately, as it appeared the next day. But when she did, it appeared that she had traveled to Japan on business and might have been too busy to react to Star Wars as soon as it had come out, which was worth waiting for.

Anyone making viral videos only needs to touch on a broadly accepted consensus, which she does at the end of the video, as a great majority already felt the movie would be “amazing.” And, like The Usual Suspect’s Keyser Soeze, she’s gone.

Well, not exactly, as she responded to some comments from time to time, but sparingly, perhaps keeping her distance from trolls and not allowing herself to get wrapped up in too much online drama?

In fact, Lauren “Stardust” Halstead is quite the celebrity in Australia, where she maintains her own existence in various cultural ventures. She’s certainly known for her major obsession with David Bowie — which would make the biggest fan envious — to go with her Star Wars fandom and overall shameless addiction to nerdism.

Recently, however, she’s been just as hard against some big budget productions as she’s been for them.

She would end up making one more video for the Japanese version of the Star Wars film, but one comment touched on the very thing viewers were curious about: what she would do when she saw the film.

But in fact, she didn’t. She does something awesome instead, proving herself to be much like David Bowie, a chameleon, as well as being fully devoted and committed to the fun world that Star Wars fans are known to create.

Here she is at the midnight screening.

Certainly, the greatest parts of her commitment are not just with the costume, but the scene when she’s at the ATM as well.

Now, with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens coming again – this time for home and mobile viewing – there are still quite a few fans who are likely feeling the same anticipation to watch it for the first time.

If anything, they’ll be doing the same thing Lauren Stardust does and expanding their Star Wars collection with one more blockbuster of a film.
