Charlie Puth And Selena Gomez: Rep Says They Are Not Dating

Charlie Puth is not “hooking up” with Selena Gomez. While an “insider” told Us Weekly said Puth is “hooking up” with Selena Gomez, a rep for the actress and pop singer told People that she and Charlie Puth are still just friends and nothing more.

“They have not been anything other than friends.”

The Us report claims that the musical duo, who collaborated on the breakup duet “We Don’t Talk Anymore” for Charlie Puth’s debut album, Nine Track Mind, have left the friendzone. A source told Us that Selena’s relationship with Puth “is not serious, but she’s super into him,” while another person described the relationship as a “flirty friendship.”

But while they might just be friends with no benefits, Charlie Puth, 24, has made it clear that he turns to the 23-year-old “Come and Get It” singer because she “gets” him in a way that no one else does.

“I don’t know if anyone really understands me, which is why I hang out with Selena Gomez. She gets me.”

Charlie Puth will open for Selena Gomez on her upcoming Revival tour, so they’ll take their “flirty friendship” on the road. Puth previously told Us he met Selena at an MTV Video Music Awards party last August. He ended up working with her on their hit song just hours before he submitted his debut album to his record company.

“I just went up to her and started talking to her. I was very floored by how well she handled herself and how mature she was. It’s nice to get to know the actual person and finding out she’s an interesting person… I’m happy that we’re friends.”

Charlie Puth has been talking about his friendship with Selena for several months now. In January, he told People how their duet came about.

“I’m good friends with her now, and we talked about wanting to collaborate, and I was finishing the song, and I was like, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if you sang the second verse?’ And that’s really how it happened. She came over; she recorded it. I didn’t even have a studio set up: she recorded it in my closet, and it really added a lot to the record.”

Charlie elaborated on the duo’s unlikely collaboration, telling Entertainment Tonight they became “fast friends” after meeting in London. After arranging the music for the track with the help of his iPhone (yes, you read that right), Puth sent the song to Selena, who loved it, and they later recorded her vocals in a very unusual way.

“She came over and I literally set the mic up in a closet. So, I can say that I’ve vocal produced Selena Gomez while she’s in a closet recording. It was, like, the most ghetto set up ever, but I think it added to the quaintness of the record. She did a really good job, too.”

Selena previously credited her new pal Charlie with pulling out the best in her. Last fall, she told Billboard that their duet came naturally due to their instant chemistry as musicians.

“I just met him a few months ago and we hit it off and we’re having so much fun. [Charlie] pulls out the best in me. It’s really great. He’s super talented and it was fun. It just kind of happened organically, to be honest.”
