‘Bering Sea Gold’ Miners Take Big Risks In Order To Reap Big Rewards

The gold in certain places, such as the Tomcod claim, is becoming scarce, so this season, the Bering Sea Gold miners scramble to figure out how to get on the gold once again. Some will turn to technology, with state-of-the art dredging and sluicing machines. Others will venture further out onto untested claims, where a fortune in gold may be resting on the Bering Sea. Whatever the individual miners and their crews decide, they’re willing to gamble big that the choices they make are the right ones. They all realize that just a single smart decision could net them the biggest haul in Bering Sea Gold history.

During the past few seasons of Bering Sea Gold, viewers have seen some cutting-edge dredging equipment, and this season will be no different. According to Discovery’s Bering Sea Gold bio page on veteran captain Vernon Adkison, he is back and looking to put his $250,000 bottom crawler to work. Nicknamed the “golden seahorse,” Adkison is hoping this dredging machine will help recoup some of the million-dollar investment he’s funneled into his gold mining operation so far.

As the weather heats up, so does the mining, and in turn, the stress causes tempers to flare and things become heated between the miners as well. The Kelly family is known for their volatile relationships with one another, and this season is no different on Bering Sea Gold. On the Reaper, patriarch Brad Kelly has big plans to strike it rich. He purchased 40 acres of offshore claims in the hopes of striking it big, but he needs his sons to come back to dive for him in order to make it work. The Kelly’s are passionate about everything they do, and according to a sneak-peek video of the new season shared by Zap2It, it’s not long before a disagreement causes the fists fly between family members.

Father and son duo, Steve and Shawn Pomrenke, are also known for getting into some fierce arguments on Bering Sea Gold. This season Shawn, aka Mr. Gold, heads back to an area known as “The Bluff,” while Steve turns toward his new inland mining operation. The decisions they make are risky and although they are not working together, they still find the time to have some heated disagreements.

This season on Bering Sea Gold, another Pomrenke will try his hand at gold mining. Shawn’s 18-year-old son, Dylan, will be working as a diver on the High Noon, owned by Derek McLarty, who just happens to be his father’s biggest competitor. McLarty spends every penny he has to purchase the guitar-shaped dredge, hoping with a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck, that his new endeavor will pay off. Although Dylan doesn’t want to work for his own family, working in the tough underwater conditions as a greenhorn diver may change his mind. He may decide that working on either his father’s or grandfather’s topside mining operations may not be such a bad idea after all.

Emily Riedel is back on the Eroica, and now in her third season as a Bering Sea Gold captain, she seems to be coming into her own. She has learned a lot and with two experienced divers working for her, she hopes to bring in more gold this season than former flame Zeke Tenhoff, who has chosen this season to work with his brother, Gabe, for a mining corporation on the Havilah. Emily can’t believe he would rather work for someone else rather than be his own boss, and one to always enjoy a challenge, she’d like to beat Zeke’s goal of 500 ounces this season.
