‘Walking Dead’ Spoilers: Last Week’s Random Scene Wasn’t Random, It Was a Spoiler

Walking Dead viewers have had mixed reactions to the less action-packed episode that aired Sunday. Readers of the comics on which Walking Dead is based, however, caught a spoiler many did not. iDigital Times explains that it involves a major character we have not yet seen, but that fans of the comics know should make an appearance in the not-too-distant future, probably in Season 7.

Warning: Spoilers will begin in the next paragraph. If you don’t want to read spoilers, stop reading now.

Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead was titled “East” and was admittedly not a very action-packed episode. The spoiler was part of a scene that felt boring to most, and so was missed by most. It was the scene where Rick and Morgan are searching for Carol on a farm. And it included lots of hints that it won’t be long before The Kingdom, its leader, Ezekiel, and his pet tiger, Shiva, appear on The Walking Dead. Let’s take a look at all the spoilers in this scene that seemed pointless on the surface, but in all likelihood was anything but pointless.

Let’s refresh our memory about this Walking Dead scene before jumping into the spoilers. Carol has disappeared. Rick and Morgan are looking for her and come across a field with a barn in the distance. Then they meet a man in armor — spoiler number one. In the Walking Dead comics, some of the new character’s men (we’ll get to identifying him in a minute) wear armor and carry spears — which leads us to spoiler number two, our mystery man’s spear. As pointed out by Movie Pilot, if you look at the man’s spear, it’s clear he has been fighting walkers with it. Our next spoiler from this scene from Sunday’s Walking Dead episode is when the mystery man says he is looking for his horse. There is a scene in the Walking Dead comics that has a shot of The Kingdom and shows a man in armor on a horse.

This scene was a short, but not random or insignificant, one in last week’s Walking Dead episode. As you can see, it provided several spoilers for coming episodes. If you haven’t read the comics, you may not be familiar with The Kingdom — or the really cool character Rick’s people will meet there. His name is Ezekiel, and he has a pet tiger named Shiva. Pretty freaking cool already.

Make no mistake, Ezekiel is a villain, but he’s a different kind of Walking Dead villain. Comic readers know the spoilers. They know he’s a calm, cool, collected kind of leader. He’s calculating. And in the comic, he looks a bit like George Clinton! Ezekiel becomes very important in the fight against Negan. But, again, he’s calculating. This Walking Dead villain won’t be obvious. We aren’t going to provide a spoiler that gives away the whole story, but here’s a small one. Ezekiel has a man on the inside at Hilltop. He has an in with one of the Saviors, who is close to Negan. And what about the tiger, Shiva? How awesome would it be to see that! It could be difficult, though, so we’ll have to see.

Yes, the Walking Dead is about to get very interesting — Even more than it’s already been! You can bet that all its fans will be on the lookout for spoilers about this week’s finale (who’s going to meet their end with the business end of Negan’s Lucille?) and Season 7.

The Walking Dead finale will air this Sunday night on AMC at 9 p.m. ET and will be 90-minutes long.
