Trip For Coffee Turns Deadly: South Carolina Mother Of Three Crushed To Death By Own Vehicle In Freak Accident At Drive-Thru

A South Carolina family is mourning the loss of 28-year-old Pamela Page, who was crushed to death by her own vehicle in a freak accident at a drive thru, according to WIVB. At approximately 8:52 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, Page – who is the mother of three young girls – was in the drive-thru line at Biggby Coffee on 717 Old Trolley Road in Summerville, ordering a coffee. When she drove up to the window to pay for her order, she dropped her credit card on the ground.

Page then proceeded to open her car door, with her foot still on the brakes, and leaned out of her vehicle to retrieve her credit card. However, in the midst of doing so, her foot somehow slipped and she pressed the accelerator, causing the vehicle to slam into the side of the building.

It was reported that when Page’s vehicle accelerated forward, her door was still open and it struck a pillar, pinning her between the car and the building. Investigators say she died on impact.

A local medical examiner determined that the cause of death was “blunt force trauma to the head and neck.”

According to Live 5 News, during the time the South Carolina woman was crushed to death by her own vehicle at a drive-thru, she was on the phone with her best friend Shayna Smith, who said that the two were in “the middle of discussion…and I heard her, I heard her body fighting to continue to live and it just ate me up because I couldn’t do anything about it.”

After the freak accident that claimed Pamela Page’s life, her family spoke with reporters and said that she was a “beautiful mother who worked three jobs to support her three young daughters.

“I was so proud of her. I’m going to make her proud of me…I love her so much. I’m going to miss her and don’t worry about the girls I’m going to do everything I can to make sure they stick together.”

Page’s youngest sister, Desja Page, stated that “Losing her was kind of like losing a mother. She always would tell us, ‘Stick together! We are sisters!’ I don’t want this to be true. But she always said, ‘Stay strong! I don’t want you crying. Turn up!’ That’s the type of person she was. So everybody who knows her, stay strong and honor her! Have a party; listen to her songs; turn up! That’s Pam.”

“She’s an angel now, watching over us and her babies. We are going to miss her,” said Page’s cousin.

“We hate that it happened, but you can’t question God.”

According to Page’s family, “she loved to sing, write music, play practical jokes on her siblings, and everyone said she was always happy.”

Out of respect for Page, the owners at Biggby Coffee where the young mother died in a freak accident, closed the shop until 2 p.m. the same day, but later decided that they weren’t going to open the facility until the following day. A sign was posted on the door, informing customers of the tragic accident. Customers at the store told reporters that the owner’s decision to keep the store closed for the remainder of the day was appropriate.

Laurel Lea — who is a regular customer at Biggby Coffee – said, “My heart goes out to her family, that’s so awful, I’m so sorry. Somebody lost their life. I can go somewhere else for coffee.”

“Young people are dying really often these days,” said Judy Katz, who is a Summerville resident. “I think it’s just terrible. I just don’t understand why. When I was 28 I never thought of dying.”

A Go Fund Me page was created following Pamela Page’s accident at a drive-thru to support her three children, who are between the ages of five months and nine years old, and thus far the family has amassed $2,491.

According to the website, there seems to be a dispute between Page’s sisters and her allegedly abusive husband, who her sisters said had been “separated from for several years and also had a restraining order against, has now stepped in and is trying to control everything without communicating or cooperating with her sisters.”

Page’s sisters are also claiming that he allegedly created other sites to collect money after the tragedy unfolded, but the family says that the money is more than likely not going to be “used to assist with her expenses for the following reasons: She was separated from her husband of 8 + years because of domestic violence; she had been threatened recently; and her restraining order against her offender recently expired.”
