Harrison Ford Offers Up A Piece Of History For Epilepsy Research, In Honor Of His Daughter

Beloved actor Harrison Ford has chosen to support a cause which is very special to him. Harrison Ford’s daughter, Georgia Ford, has suffered from epilepsy for many years. Georgia Ford went on having seizures and other medical problems before finally receiving the correct diagnosis of epilepsy at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York.

This center is a teaching hospital affiliated with New York University. According to the Daily Mail, the precious daughter of Harrison Ford was treated at this medical center for epilepsy several years ago. Since leaving NYU Langone around eight years ago, Georgia Ford has never suffered another seizure.

According to The Epilepsy Foundation, epilepsy is defined as a chronic, neurological disorder.

“The human brain is the source of human epilepsy. Although the symptoms of a seizure may affect any part of the body, the electrical events that produce the symptoms occur in the brain. The location of that event, how it spreads and how much of the brain is affected, and how long it lasts all have profound effects. These factors determine the character of a seizure and its impact on the individual.”

Harrison Ford is so grateful for the help that Georgia received that he is donating a personal item, which can actually be considered an amazing piece of Star Wars history, to be auctioned off, with the proceeds benefiting epilepsy research, FACES (Finding a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures), and NYU Langone Center.

If Only is auctioning Harrison Ford’s generous donation of the jacket Han Solo wore in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Today reports the auction site’s CEO, Trevor Traina, is excited to be a part of this fundraiser.

“We are thrilled and honored to be supporting such an incredible cause by featuring a piece of cinematic history. We’ve been lucky to support hundreds of causes, but this one is even more significant as it is so personal to Harrison.”

In March, Harrison Ford addressed an audience at a FACES gala, explaining a bit of what Georgia Ford has gone through with epilepsy and the great help she’s received at the hands of Dr. Orrin Devinsky.

“Nine years ago my daughter was admitted to NYU Langone to be treated for epilepsy, and she has not had a seizure since the day she left. My family and I are grateful for Dr. Devinsky’s help and all the support that FACES provides for those who suffer from epilepsy and seizures.”

Us Weekly offers a deeper insight into the emotions Harrison Ford was feeling that night, noting that he was actually becoming tearful when speaking about Georgia’s first seizure, which occurred during a sleepover when she was a little girl.

“When you have a loved one who suffers from this disease, it can be devastating. You know how it affects their lives, their future, their opportunities and you want desperately to find mitigation. You want to find a way that they can live a comfortable and effective life.”

If you would like to be the proud owner of Han Solo’s iconic jacket from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, you can bid on the auction at If Only. The bidding on this piece from Harrison Ford’s personal collection began at $15,000, and has now reached a whopping $31,000 dollars. As of today, the Harrison Ford/Han Solo jacket auction still has 13 days remaining before the final bids are cast.

Harrison Ford, the man behind Han Solo, is much more of a softy than his TV counterpart. Harrison Ford loves his daughter and remains very grateful that her potentially “devastating” disorder has now been controlled.
