Kurt Sutter Working On Both ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Prequel And Spinoff Series, Says FX President John Landgraf

Kurt Sutter has confirmed that there will be a Sons of Anarchy prequel, according to Zap2it. The news comes a little more than a year since the series waved goodbye to the fans. And even though the final episode ended with Jax Teller’s death, the fans have been demanding new episodes of the FX drama starring Charlie Hunnam.

And now that fans have got the official confirmation by Kurt Sutter, the question remains: When can they expect the prequel and a spinoff series to air? The fans also wonder whether or not Hunnam would star in the new episodes.

It was previously reported that after Kurt Sutter’s show The Bastard Executioner was cancelled by FX, the showrunner got more free time to work on both the Sons of Anarchy prequel and the spinoff show.

FX President and General Manager John Landgraf revealed in his recent interview with Zap2it that Kurt Sutter has already started working on both of the upcoming Sons of Anarchy new series.

“I don’t have anything concrete to say about those two things except to say Kurt said he’s working on them and they’ll be coming to me soon.”

Landgraf also added that even though he advised Kurt Sutter to take a break after the cancellation of his most recent show, the 55-year-old director didn’t stop writing even for a second. So it seems that Sutter is committed to working hard on the new episodes of the drama that was FX’s highest-rated series ever during its third season.

“He says that he just can’t not write and that he’s been writing and working on an idea for a show. And he’s also re-expressed interest in getting back into another show that exists in the Sons of Anarchy franchise.”

According to reports by the Hollywood Reporter, Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy spinoff series will be centered around the Mayans Motorcycle Club, which is one of SAMCRO’s enemies and, at times, their allies. And even though the Mayans eventually made peace with Jax Teller on the show, there must be quite a story to tell about their past.

According to reports, Kurt Sutter will make the prequel focused on the origins of SAMCRO, which means Jax’s father, John Teller, and other older club members will be at the center of the plot. This fact alone makes Sons of Anarchy fans wonder if Hunnam would return to reprise his role as Jax Teller at some point of the prequel.

In his recent interview with GQ, Hunnam was unclear about his future plans for Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy prequel and spinoff series, neither confirming nor denying his return. However, he did hint that he is officially done playing Jax Teller.

However, he revealed that saying goodbye to the character he played for over seven years was “a motherf***er.”

“As stupid as it sounds, it really felt like a genuine bereavement. Because he was this guy that I loved and hung out with constantly for seven years.”

He also added that after he had shed tears for three weeks after Kurt Sutter’s show finished its run in December of last year, he then one day woke up and was like, “Okay, it’s time to move on. RIP, Jax Teller.”

Kurt Sutter hasn’t shared any details about the upcoming Sons of Anarchy prequel and the spinoff series yet, nor has he announced when either of the series would air.
