Jeff Daniels Says A ‘Dumb And Dumber’ Sequel Could Still Happen

When news first broke that a proper “Dumb and Dumber” sequel was in the works, yours truly almost exploded. Unfortunately, my balloon of elation was soon deflated by the departure of co-star Jim Carrey, who openly complained that both Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema weren’t displaying the proper amount of excitement for the project. Although Jeff Daniels previously stated the movie would somehow come together, it just didn’t seem likely.

According to Cinema Blend, Daniels appearance at the Television Critics Association panel for “The Newsroom” included the revelation that “Dumb and Dumber 2” could still happen. In fact, if everything falls into place, then filming could begin next summer.

“Jim wants to do it. I want to do it. The Farrellys want to do it. They want to rewrite the script a little bit and they aren’t trying to jam it in before I have to go back and do ‘Newsroom’ in November,” Daniels told Crave Online. “So they’re going, ‘Why don’t we just do it right? Let’s get everybody organized to go next May or June.’ If everything works out on the business side, that’s what we’ll do but I think there’s more hope than ever.”

Daniels went on to explain that he understood Carey’s frustration with the studio. One minute everything was good to go, the next something was wrong. He added, “I was frustrated too. We thought it was in pretty good shape. The studio and others wanted some more work done it. The Farrellys wanted more work done on it so they got working on it and I think last week they decided to push the shooting of it to next year, possibly because I wasn’t going to move ‘The Newsroom.”

Even after all these years, “Dumb and Dumber” remains one of my all-time favorite comedies. What do you think? Does the world really need “Dumber and Dumber 2?”
