Who Will ‘The Walking Dead’ Villain Negan Kill In The Season 6 Finale? [Spoilers]

Spoiler alert: Will Negan kill one of The Walking Dead core characters among leader Rick Grimes’ close-knit group of survivors in the 90-minute season 6 finale, or perhaps even during tonight’s next-to-last episode?

In the comic book that provides the source material for the television show, Negan — the leader of the plunder and murder cult known as the Saviors — brutally kills Glenn with his barbed-wire-covered bat nicknamed Lucille, and speculation is running rampant that someone on the TV version will meet that same fate. ” This guy is getting more entrance hype than a WWE heel,” quipped the New York Post about the forthcoming debut of arch-villain Negan.

Showrunners on the AMC hit enjoy the ability to mix and match content from the comic, and one of the producers has previously claimed that they have sketched out the TV narrative through Season 12. It remains to be seen if the show continues to be the most popular scripted drama on basic cable by then.

Although The Walking Dead has a history of sprinkling in action-packed episodes with those that are more like a ponderous, meandering talk-fest, several of the installments this season have been unusually gripping.

That being said, since the TV show portrayed the fake death — “dumpstergate” — of Glenn (Steven Yuen) earlier in the season when he was attacked by a zombie horde, his demise seems unlikely in the season-ender.

Some fanboys and girls are up in arms that the highly-anticipated Negan-induced fatality could be Daryl (Norman Reedus), in part because his character is unknown in the graphic novel.

But at least two more beloved characters could be in death pool.

In last week’s episode, recall that Denise was killed by an arrow through the eye from Daryl’s stolen crossbow fired by outlaw Dwight, a fate that Abraham suffered in the comic.

This leads some to believe that quip-machine Abraham instead may meet Lucille up close and personal.

[Added: Forbes also makes the case for “second-stringer” Abraham as the next to go. “It’s a win for everyone, because even though Abraham has his admirers, he is not at the level of fan-favorites like Glenn, Carol or especially Daryl…”]

Parenthetically, in an additional entry to the list of many bad decisions on The Walking Dead, why would you allow the only person with medical training to go out on a supply run? Alexandria now has plenty of medicine, but no doctor to administer it.

Another candidate is Carol (Melissa McBride) who was banished in a previous season and now has apparently gone into self exile.

Her rushed transition from housewife to bad-ass warrior to teary-eyed pacifist — partially because of her guilt over the zombie-attack death of young Sam — may suggest that her story arc is reaching its conclusion.

As alluded to above, it could also be Daryl (thereby making devoted fans heads explode, so to speak) or someone else in the apparent Carol search party that receives the Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) beatdown.

As the Inquisitr previously discussed, The Walking Dead has often lapsed into a rinse-repeat cycle of human-on-human capture and rescue, and has suffered some audience erosion in the process.

It’s also possible that The Walking Dead’s brain trust, as it were, could sacrifice a relatively secondary character, such as Tara or Heath, who are already and conveniently on a supply run.

As cast member Christian Serratos (Rosita) suggested on Talking Dead last Sunday night, each and every character on the show eventually has an expiration date.

The unpredictable deaths of well-loved main characters such as Hershel, Beth, and Tyreese — and the others that preceded them — have shocked The Walking Dead’s audience and created a lot of buzz. With so many core survivors becoming extreme fan favorites at this point, it’s unclear if the writers/producers still can take out one of these prime players — at least on an unfettered basis and with taking that all-important viewership ratings into consideration — unless the stars want to move on to other opportunities, which is common in that industry, and which will prompt script adjustments accordingly.

Yet, given all the momentum and rumors, someone is probably going to die, sadly, on a fictional basis of course, although another major swerve/misdirection is hardly impossible, too.

According to Cleveland Plain Dealer, based on a leaked international video teaser (that was removed from YouTube but is now back up), this is how the Negan confrontation may play out.

“Rumors surfaced last week detailing just how the Season 6 finale might end. It appears the Saviors will corner Rick’s group, leaving Negan to decide which one of them will pay the price for the raid on the Saviors’ compound…Rumor has it the infamous Negan death scene will be shot from the victim’s perspective and we may have to wait until October’s Season 7 premiere to find out who. None of this is confirmed…But it looks like Negan’s arrival will indeed take place in the closing minutes of Season 6.”
