Law & Order: SVU is finally back after a 3-week hiatus. Next Wednesday, fans of the NBC police drama can expect Dominick “Sonny” Carisi (Peter Scanavino) to be featured. Season 17, Episode 19 is titled “Sheltered Outcasts,” and as previously reported by the Inquisitr, the synopsis for the March 30 episode of SVU was published. Now that the air date is getting closer, the network has released a promo clip and two sneak peeks, in addition to several photos. It is being teased that the case will be the “biggest shocker of the year.” What could be bigger than Ed Tucker’s (Robert John Burke) investigation and Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) being transferred out of the Special Victims Unit?
The synopsis for Law & Order: SVU Season 17, Episode 19 states that Sonny Carisi will go undercover at a homeless shelter. The NYPD sex crimes unit will be investigating a string of rapes in the neighborhood. By going undercover and posing as a homeless man, the squad hopes to arrest one of the sex offenders residing in the homeless shelter.
In addition to Peter Scanavino, the credits include series regulars Ice-T as Fin Tutuola, and Kelli Giddish as Amanda Rollins. Mariska Hargitay, who stars as Olivia Benson in Law & Order: SVU, will be directing this episode. The press release also lists guest appearances by Michael Rapaport, Scott Grimes, and Kevin Tighe.
Spoilers Guide posted the promo clip for Season 17, Episode 19. It is short and doesn’t reveal too much information about “Sheltered Outcasts.” However, Rollins says that “he” is a target, and could get killed in “that place.” It seems that Amanda is referring to Carisi going undercover in the homeless shelter. It appears that the shelter has some sort of program for sex offenders. Several men of various ages are sitting in a circle, similar to a support group or meeting.
The narrator teases that something goes “terribly wrong” in the promo clip for “Sheltered Outcasts.” While walking across the street, Carisi is surrounded by angry men. Some of them have weapons, and one asks if his daughter was raped by Sonny. The video speeds up after this, and it is difficult to say for sure, but it appears that the men beat Carisi. The next thing shown in the promo clip for Law & Order: SVU Season 17, Episode 19 is Olivia Benson lifting up a white sheet to look at a murder victim.
In the comments section of Spoiler TV, one fan worried that Peter Scanavino‘s character may be killed. However, Benson would have a more devastated look on her face if that was the case. Hargitay’s character does seem upset, but not enough for the victim to be Carisi or anyone else from her squad.

A sneak peek for Law & Order: SVU shows Benson, Rollins, and Tutuola investigating a series of rapes. A couple holding a baby approaches Olivia, and the mother explains she was invited by the victim to attend a spin class. However, the woman did not go. The father of the child tells Benson about the other rapes in the neighborhood, and that the crimes began when the homeless shelter opened. It turns out that the shelter has a special section for sex offenders. The victim is still alive, and Rollins tells Benson that she thinks the suspect ran toward the homeless shelter.
An additional sneak peek clip for “Sheltered Outcasts” reveals that the SVU may have a suspect. A young man named “Loomis” with a horrible stutter is in the interrogation room with Rollins. Amanda threatens to call his parole officer after Loomis resists speaking into a recorder. In the end, the suspect does what Rollins asks.

The Law & Order: SVU Season 17, Episode 19 sneak peek also features Carisi. He reveals that nobody in the shelter is bragging about assaulting anyone. Fin asks if anyone was out around 7 p.m., but Sonny isn’t sure. At that time, he was trailing one of the shelter residents, but he didn’t commit any crimes. Before Carisi leaves, Tutuola asks him to talk into a recorder because another “filler voice” is needed.
What do you think will happen with Sonny Carisi in “Sheltered Outcasts?” Law & Order: SVU Season 17, Episode 19 airs March 30 on NBC.
