Goldie Hawn Teams Up With Amy Schumer In Return To Big Screen

It has been a while since Goldie Hawn starred in an acting project, but her acting chops shouldn’t be too rusty. The veteran actress has officially signed on to co-star with Amy Schumer in an untitled comedy movie.

Hawn has been on an acting hiatus for the last 14 years, but decided that working with Schumer is worth sitting in the makeup chair once again, according to People. Hawn praised Schumer’s work and mentioned that she is excited to do a comedy film with one of today’s leading comedy stars.

“We’re going to hit the balls back and forth…Two women lost in the jungle. It’s going to be so much fun! I love her very much.”

It was back in February that Goldie Hawn was in talks to play Amy Schumer’s mother in a family vacation gone wrong type of comedy movie, as reported by The Wrap. A 20th Century Fox executive initially denied that Hawn was approached to star in the film, but as of last Thursday, Hawn announced that she is on board.

Goldie Hawn has not appeared in any films since 2002, when she last starred in The Banger Sisters with Susan Sarandon. The Private Benjamin actress purposely took a years-long break from acting to concentrate on her own charity, The Hawn Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides youth educational programs to improve academic performances.

The Schumer and Hawn comedy flick does not have a working title yet, but all the information available for the upcoming movie is that the two blonde actresses will star as a mother-daughter duo that goes on a trouble-filled vacation. Screenwriter/director Jonathan Levine will direct the actresses in the film.

While Hawn starred in a few dramas in her career, she is famous for her more comedic roles in movies like Protocol, Wildcats, Death Becomes Her, and The First Wives Club. Hawn even starred with her longtime partner, actor Kurt Russell, in the popular romantic comedy Overboard, which was their third film together.

Hawn received several award nominations for many of her films. Hawn was nominated multiple times for the Golden Globes Best Actress category for Butterflies Are Free, Shampoo, The Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox, Foulplay, Private Benjamin, Best Friends, and The Banger Sisters. The actress won the 1969 Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the film, Cactus Flower, and received a Best Actress Oscar nomination for the 1980 film, Private Benjamin.

Amy Schumer is coming off from a successful 2015. The comedian’s first starring role in a feature film, Trainwreck, which she also wrote, was a box office and critical success. The comedy movie also received award nominations for Best Original Screenplay from the Writers Guild of America, and the Golden Globes Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical category. Schumer’s Comedy Central show, Inside Amy Schumer, won an Emmy award for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.

While Goldie Hawn is returning to the big screen, she doesn’t consider her new movie a comeback in her career. She is grateful that she could take a break from acting to focus on her charity, but Hawn is doing this role because acting makes her happy.

“But the one thing that gets under your skin is the one thing that many times God gave you to do. So I felt, well, my career is amazing, but I’m not doing this to reestablish a career, but I am doing it because it’s one of the things that makes me happy. So that’s what I’m doing.”

Acting is fun for the 70-year-old Hawn, but her biggest passion is The Hawn Foundation. The foundation introduces important emotion and social programs for children as a way to reduce stressful or aggressive behavior while improving their education and quality of life.
