Uncovered: ‘Final Fantasy XV’ Event Reveals Game Release Date, Anime, Movie, And More

A major event for Final Fantasy XV, Square Enix’s highly anticipated RPG, took place in Los Angeles last night.

Much speculation has surrounded the game’s release date, but Square Enix has officially come forth and revealed that Final Fantasy XV will be released on September 30 of this year. There will also be a Final Fantasy XV CGI movie called Kingsglaive that will be released ahead of the game. According to IGN, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will make the movie available for streaming and download. However, it will not be in theaters. If that isn’t enough to hold you over, Square Enix has also announced that a multi-episode anime for Final Fantasy XV called Brotherhood will be released. The first episode is already available for viewing on YouTube.

Trailers and screenshots were plentiful at the Uncovered event. From combat to story, much was unveiled by Square Enix for the faithful fans old and new who have been anxiously awaiting full coverage of Final Fantasy XV. If you want to get your hands on the game, there are multiple ways to do so.

Square Enix has revealed that a Day One, Deluxe, and Ultimate Edition of the Final Fantasy XV game will be available, all of which are up for preorder. The Day One Edition of Final Fantasy XV will come with the “Masamune Pack,” a bonus content that will bring back the iconic, legendary sword Masamune from previous installments in the Final Fantasy series.

The Deluxe Edition will contain all Day One Edition content, as well as an exclusive two-disc steelbook that includes both the Final Fantasy XV game and Kingsglaive movie Blu-ray. It will also contain a recolor for the in-game car, Leviathan, and the Royal Raiment costume DLC from Kingsglaive.

The Ultimate Edition, a Square Enix Store exclusive, will contain all Deluxe Edition content alongside an official Blu-ray disc with the music from Final Fantasy XV, Kingsglaive, and Brotherhood. There will also be a blu-ray disc for Brotherhood, containing an exclusive sixth episode. Perhaps the biggest attraction to the Ultimate Edition will be the PLAY ARTS -KAI- Noctis action figure with Ultimate Edition-exclusive weapon.

Unfortunately, only 30,000 units of the Ultimate Edition will be available. Those who are unable to preorder right away shouldn’t get discouraged, though, as Square Enix will place customers on a waiting list if product availability is made possible. The Day One Edition retails at $59.99, the Deluxe Edition retails at $89.99, and the Ultimate Edition will retail at $269.99.

Kingsglaive, the feature length Final Fantasy XV movie announced at the Uncovered event last night, will star Lena Headey and Sean Bean of Game of Thrones. Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad will also star in the movie. The cast will play Princess Luna, King Regis, and the soldier Nyx, respectively. The movie will be based around conflict between kingdom and empire, forcing ultimatum and choice. This seems to go hand in hand with the plot of Final Fantasy XV.

The Uncovered event also announced that a minigame for Final Fantasy XV will be available on smartphone called Justice Monsters Five, a pinball game that appears to have some tie-in with the main game. A press release has stated that “it’s a pinball game for mobile devices combining role-playing elements with some of the franchise’s most iconic monsters.” Noctis and his companions will be able to play Justice Monsters Five during their travels in the main game.

Smartphone users have the option to pre-register the game on Android and iOS, though it will also be available on the Universal Store for Windows 10 devices. It is still unclear as to how the minigame on smartphone will translate into the main game.

To top all of this exciting Final Fantasy XV news off, Square Enix has released a new demo for players who want to get their hands on some Final Fantasy XV action before the full game is released. Named the Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo, players can go through as young Noctis and explore the Final Fantasy world with great detail. The cover of the demo appears to display an image of Carbuncle, an iconic summon monster that has aided players in previous installments of the Final Fantasy series. Successful completion of the demo will unlock Carbuncle in the full game.
