Selena Gomez Gushes Over Taylor Swift, ‘Through Thick & Thin She’s Walked By My Side’
Selena Gomez is gushing over her close friendship with best friend Taylor Swift.
Gomez opened up about her relationship with Taylor Swift and how she’s stood by her during her highs and lows. In a new interview on the British morning show Lorraine, Selena also got candid about the support she’s received from her close friend and how Swift helped her to create her latest album, Revival.
“I mean I’ve known her for 10 years she’s been one of my best friends through thick and thin, [she’s] walked by my side,” Gomez said of Taylor on the show, before admitting that she’s actually pretty close to the whole Swift family.
“[Taylor’s] whole family has been so supportive of me,” Selena continued in the interview, “and yeah, she’s been there during crucial points in my life and in my career.”
“She’s known for embracing her personal story [and] creating a beautiful thing out of it,” Gomez added of Swift, before admitting that it was actually Taylor who encouraged her to put her pain and life struggles into song for her latest release, Revival.
“I was a little hesitant with that,” Selena revealed of getting personal with her music on Lorraine this week, “and she was always the person to encourage me to tell my story and be proud of who I am.”
Gomez also got candid in the new interview about how she struggled with being candid in her music at the start of her career, confessing that she was actually discouraged from showing that side of herself to her fans with her earlier albums as part of the band Selena Gomez and The Scene.
“I think the beginning of my career, it was very tailored, it was very precise. Sharing the vulnerable, raw, messy side wasn’t necessarily encouraged,” Selena said, “I think the definition of strength is being vulnerable and being honest.”
“That doesn’t mean you have to be like, ‘I’m strong I’m amazing, look at me,'” Gomez continued to Lorraine correspondent Dan Wootton, adding, “you can have those moments but you won’t have those moments unless you’re like ‘I’ve been broken, I’ve felt things and messed up a lot and I’m okay saying that.'”
And it certainly looks like Selena Gomez is okay about spilling the beans on her friendship with Taylor Swift, as Selena’s latest gushing remarks about Swift are just the latest in a string of sweet things Gomez has said about the “Shake It Off” singer during their lengthy friendship.
Back in 2014, Selena took to Instagram to gush over Taylor upon the release of her multi-platinum album, 1989.
“From hotel room album listening parties, kitchen dance floor album listening parties to driving on the pch, windows down album listening parties – The best part is we were the only ones there,” Selena captioned a collage on the photo sharing site, which showed four sweet photos of Selena and Taylor out and about together.
“Each time. So happy, honored and proud to know you and your diaries,” Gomez continued in the photo’s caption back in 2014, before adding, “[Taylor Swift] #1989 BUY IT!!! – now I’ll listen live from drowning in my bed sheets.”
Selena also spoke out about her and Taylor’s friendship in a sweet pre-recorded video which aired during shows on Swift’s 1989 Tour, where she described the singer and the rest of the girls in Taylor’s infamous “squad” as being like her “family.”
“Having a good group of girls, it’s the family that you create,” Selena said in Taylor’s 1989 Tour video.
