Chris Hemsworth: Hollywood ‘Becomes A Bit Suffocating,’ Calls Acting ‘Self-Absorbed’

Actor Chris Hemsworth apparently had a lot to share about acting and Hollywood at a recent photo shoot.

During an interview with Modern Luxury magazine, according to Just Jared, the 32-year-old actor was asked to discuss how Hollywood affects him. Hemsworth explained that he loves his career as an actor, but also focused on the dark side that poses a unique challenge — especially for a family man.

“I love what I do as an actor, but when you are surrounded by it constantly, it becomes a bit suffocating. It’s nice to have conversations with people and be a part of a community that doesn’t live and breathe that world. We were living shoulder to shoulder in the suburbs and thought that’s not how we want our kids to grow up.”

Chris Hemsworth further explained that making the decision to move his family “to a kind of farm setup” on the coast in Australia “has been the best thing” for them.

The Thor actor first met Furious 7 actress Elsa Pataky back in 2010. They were connected through their mutual representatives, according to Us Weekly. Chris and Elsa took their relationship to the next level the same year, becoming husband and wife in December of 2010.

Chris Hemsworth first became a father when Elsa gave birth to their daughter India Rose in May of 2012.

Nearly two years later, the celebrity couple officially became a family of five when they welcomed their twin sons Tristan and Sasha into the world in March 2014, according to USA Today.

During the same interview with Modern Luxury, Chris Hemsworth did not just talk about his busy acting career. He also apparently opened up about his experience as a father of three, explaining how fatherhood is “refreshing” for him. However, at the same time, he also explained the sharp contrast between acting and fatherhood along with a profound statement on the self-absorbed nature of acting in general.

“It’s no longer all about me, which is quite refreshing. Acting is the most self-absorbed world, where you are thinking about your feelings. How do I feel in this scene? How do I feel about that? You are constantly having to self-analyze or analyze a character you are playing, so you are internalizing and thinking, thinking, thinking about me. ‘Oh, I didn’t get that…and I wanted that one, and am I any good?’ It’s just a horrible, noisy conversation. Once the kids arrived, I was like, ‘Wow, this is what life is about.'”

Chris Hemsworth has never hesitated from talking about his children and the love that he has for each of them publicly. In addition to sharing memorable photos of himself as a family man on social media, he has embraced the topic willingly in many of his past interviews.

During a November 2015 interview with Daily Life, for example, Hemsworth stated that “the biggest thing” that he has learned by having kids is that now he knows what love is as well as frustration.

“I know the full gamut of emotions, good and bad. I feel I had just scratched the surface prior.”

As a rising star in Hollywood, Chris will likely continue to fill his schedule with more acting roles in the future. Keep in mind that he is far from finished with his days of playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it is apparently clear that Chris Hemsworth keeps his wife and kids as a top priority in his life, an adorable quality that likely makes him even more appealing to his fans and followers.
